The laws are there for a reason Mike. Hope you dont use your discretion on them. The police take a dim view on that.
You are right about the distances between vehicles, Jim. One of the main gripes that HGV drivers have is the car drivers who overtake lorries and then reduce the safe braking distance to dangerously small. If they realised how their car and family could be wiped out by a heavily laden lorry if something happened instantaneously they would not drive. Madness.
This is a well known one, Mike. Solution. Take the lorries off the roads and put thr freight on the trains.
Our train network is not good enough John, if the volume of freight on the roads could be transported cheaper by rail then they would be doing it already.
Always makes me wonder why rail and indeed canals are not more widely used, as you say OSS, its got to be time and money, that rules everything today.
One word one name 'Beeching', sadly while one would think that scientists in politics would make a good decisions it often does not turn out that way.
They are doing it, Jim. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daventry_International_Rail_Freight_Terminal It is used by many companies to send goods to Scotland. It is growing too.
Well it just goes to show how some people can be taken in by anything they see on the TV then swear blind it is correct. When was it you passed your LGV test again? or did you not complete the driving test after eating too many hedgehog batches. Truckers is an odious Americanism. Truck stop is passable FYI.
It's been said earlier but for haulage with no time constraints (i.e. non-perishables) canals would be a fantastic alternative and much greener too
Good to know you like trucking. I was thinking of sending you a pm to find out how you got on with the reversing but I chickened out when remembering you like to re-broadcast pm's onto the general forum.
I don't like truckers that break the speed limit going past my house at 4am with 44 tons shaking the house from top to bottom
A difficult thing for drivers of LGV's HaloHalo is that many companies just give an address of the destination then the journey is down to Satnav and how smart the driver is or is not. This situation often results in 44 tonnes being in places they shouldn't. It is unsafe to read maps as you go along. Living close to a road that artics use is a nightmare.
