Like I said, majority of the population is still Class C and I am just sharing a point of view of Class A and B.

A lot of the Class A and B have Chinese white skin because a lot of them are Chinese too We don't have to worry about getting white-r because we are "white enough" already. I even have a lot of friends and acquaintances who like caucasians, bask in the sun to get a tan.

To be honest, the Filipino's quest to have freakishly white skin is a pet peeve of mine as I believe in loving your own color

A lot of the models are Mestizas and Chinitas because this is what the typical Filipino finds beautiful and hope to become.

I have to agree about Nancy Binay, her coloring has nothing to do with her competence or intellect but then she isn't very competent and intelligent too

Sorry, there is just something really wrong with Kay's sister in law's statement. All I can say is - face palm! I see a lot of beautiful tan/brown skinned Filipinas. In the recent years, the pagent circuit has learned it's lesson and started to send "exotic" looking girls to international pagents and they started to win big compared the the mestizas that they usually send.

Possibly, the higher the dispensable income, the more money they can splurge to whitening regimens. From soaps, scrubs, peels, pills, injectibles, etc. From the high street procedures to top notch doctors.

But then, I'd always say, love your own skin

To add, I like the sarcasm. A lot of people find it rude or took some time getting used to it but it is a breathe of fresh air for me.

I have managed to persuade my wife not to use skin whitening products. Since she has been here her skin has lightened anyway. To be honest I preferred her with her native darker colouring.

Hi,
I think you will find that most wives of men in this forum are what you call "Class C".
I certainly would never call my wife anything but first class in every respect
It is such a shame to learn that Filipinos have a class structure based on these things

All the Filipinas I have seen in the UK are dark skinned.
I have never seen a white skinned Filipina anywhere outside the Philippines.
I once made a post about the Chinese looking students at a University internet cafe in Negros.
It is therefore true to say that all the dark skinned Filipinas who have married and moved abroad are the ones who are experiencing life in other countries!

One of the delights of being a foreigner in someone else's country is that their class system does not apply to you. We British judge one another by our accents and Filipinos go on skin colour.

I would have thought there are many more than classes A,B and C. There must surely be several classes of working class and of the no working class, for example.

I'm sure she and all the wives here are first class to their husband's eyes It is unfortunate but that is how the culture is. I would actually be very happy to see that skin color would not be a basis for beauty or money.

I did a little catching up and it's pretty glaring how the distribution of socio-economic class is at the moment -

AB (1%) Php1,857,000/year
C (9%) Php603,000/year
D (60%) Php191,000/year
E (30%) Php62,000/year

Interesting to note that 2% of the population are Chinese in the Philippines. I am one of them and you see a lot of us from the actresses like Kim Chiu to business sector like Tessie Sy-Coson and ordinary folk. We are much lighter skin than a typical Filipino and have the proper chinky almond shape eyes

My wifes mom live in Ayala Alabang and my wife lived there too. Does that make them Class A folk?

Another aspect of "perceived feminine pulchritude" in the Philippines has been the enthusiasm, on the intellectual and political Left, for "the Malay type". There was, and to some extent still is, an enthusiasm for girls who look "pure Malay" on the political and intellectual Left. I don't think this started out as racism; it was just a sort of political enthusiasm for the "hardy native peasant stock" as opposed to all those mestizas and chinitas! Naming no names but.. Nick Joaquin, Frankie Jose, etc!

Whaaaaatt? When I am in the UK, I bask in the sun if it is out LOL. And if your wife's family owns a house in Ayala Alabang then I would guess they are Class A folk. It is one of the best gated communities in the south.
