Never gone because of the six hour land journey through the mountains, would love to do it though, it would be such a contrast if, as Ana says, it has western architecture and a climate somewhere around that of northern France.

First time we went up there about 25 years ago ,we liked it so much we put a deposit on a small lot up there,, We still have that lot and we use paying the land tax as an excuse to return every couple of years.. Each time we go,I am a little more disappointed at how the population levels seem to have exploded and the heavy pollution that is evident around sessions road..
That said I would still very much recommend a trip up there for those that have not been.. Its worth it for the climate alone in the summer season..
A friend of mine said he saw it snow there once!

    Agree 100%.

After the typhoon hit Tacloban and the way people were treated, I would be far happier retiring to somewhere closer. I've lived and worked in Malta, and that would be my first choice, followed by Spain. Not that I have to worry about such a thing for at least 20 years yet!

Tagaytay is too close to metro Manila for my liking. Not visited Baguio yet but friends living there tell me it rains a lot there - far more than any other civilised place in the country. And it does get hit by typhoons rather too often. But it is a safe city for foreigners and whilst you probably won't need any aircon, dehumidifiers are desirable though not essential. Good place for western fruit and veg apparently. If you have a car, you can be lazing on a beautiful beach within a couple of hours (depending on traffic).

Same here. I am going to walk alongside it in 5 minutes.

All I do is step outside my front door and cross the road.

    holy mooly..........

Mark, do me a favour. Please, Don't antagonize John. Don't quote him or pick on any perceived, inzy, winzey comment he posts.

John, you too, please. Ditto in regard of Mark.

Just please agree to blatantly ignore each other's presence with as much disdain that can be mustered and leave it at that, huh...??

Both of you have very good points and some little undesirable ones, but I tend to miss the latters in favour of harmony.

I am sure that whatever needs addressing, could be discussed on a friendly basis, in the morning, over a mug of espresso and a couple of croissants, by a beach somewhere.
    Preferably in Italy....

With the rolling monthly post count of 966, this Forum is turning into JohnAsh's blog. He'll be banning me quite soon.
