Think we'll chuck a BC in there also.

To follow on from the doctors surgery question - what's the situation with getting a mobile phone contract? Because they run a credit check don't they? If we have ID for the address they'll still ask for a previous address for the credit check won't they, so how does that work? Anyone know?

I just went out and bought a Vodafone PAYG card for the missus then set up an online account where she can top up. All her family communications to the Philippines and beyond are done via Skype and Facebook. I know there are a few threads on this sort of thing, just search the forums, chaps here know the cheapest ways of connecting to the Phils.

Yeah Skype and Facebook are good. But for here he'll need a phone contract - might end up having to do it in my name I guess? Just thought we could get something else in his name in the process. Might not be possible though cos of the credit check thing?

I use a PAYG SIM a couple of them, international SIM on O2 to get really cheap calls to the Phils or elsewhere (which includes a ridiculously huge number of minutes and SMS in the UK) and another one on which I can get a lot of data.

I make few calls ever so the balance just builds up and up on these phones, also I accidentally left a SIM in the Phils back in March, it had 120 quid credit on it, I was a bit upset when I got home, but I should find it again next time I go over

Firstly, it may be difficult to get a mobile phone contract as it is so easy to run up a bill phoning home! Secondly, most financial institutions will not recognise a mobile phone bill as a valid form of ID, even if it is on contract.

The same applies to credit cards - difficult to get one as it is too easy to run up a debt and they cannot be used as a form of ID either.
