Hi again folks, Does anyone happen to know what would be the correct power plug adapter to buy for when in Philippines? I see you can buy worldwide adapters and whilst i imagine that would be the one to go for i would rather check in here to get you guy's thoughts. Whilst i'm here, does anyone happen to know if the Saudi airlines planes are fitted with USB charging for mobile phones. I'm gonna take a battery bank anyway. However, i'd rather have my phone for entertainment whilst on plane but obviously if there aren't charging points that aint gonna be an option. Cheers.
The main plug type in the Phils for lower power devices is known as Type A, the Phils are 220V and 60 Hz, some UK devices won't accomodate the frequency but they are a vanishingly small number of devices a clock radio wouldn't work for me one time, everything else has been fine. You want a Type G to Type A. You can buy these all over the place in the Philippines: You can also buy these fairly cheaply in the Phils, this will do your toothbrush and shaver as well as a phone charger, the two pin sockets take Type A and our round two pin plugs for bathroom device charger use. Sorry never flown Saudi but checking on SeatGuru a typical 777-200 has no power in economy but the 777-300 does. Best to take a charger in your carry on baggage, most planes that have power have a multi adapter layout like that Philippine power block above. More modern planes will have USB but I often find the cable falls out or it just plain isn't working. My last few flights were business class so I've been a bit spoiled recently and everything worked without effort.
Ok, thanks for that. I'll just buy one over there then. Not sure what plane i'll be on but i'll go check if my ticket or itinerary tells me.
Check your seat using that SeatGuru link, search by flight number and date, not the general page I was looking at and check both legs of your flight, they can use different equipment on each leg, middle east to Philippines sometimes being on older aircraft. Select 'Seat Maps' and go from there.
I've spent five and a half months there this year, I was heartbroken leaving my kids a couple of weeks ago to come back here to the UK, going back out in January sometime.
Ok, so i checked the Saudi app and under "flight details" it lists in flight entertainment in form of 8 inch screen with on demand movies excetera. Not sure if that is listed because i am entitled to use it or simply listed as it's an option. I suspect i'd need to purchase the in flight entertainment as an optional extra. And it also has charge points as you stated.
Will be my first and likely last time there. Only able to go for 3 weeks. Think it's going to break my heart too if i'm honest.
Yeah i did look but wasn't sure as there are 3 types in Philippines as no doubt you'll already know. I'll just wait until i get there i reckon.
When I used to go over a lot I used to take one of these six gang extension leads (6 Gang Surge Protected Extension Lead, White 2m - Pro Elec | CPC (farnell.com)) as my many devices had UK plugs: I used to change the UK plug on the end of the extension lead for a plug that is used in the Philippines. I was trained as a radar technician so electrical things were easy for me. This helps in as much as you don't need to buy many UK to Filipino adapters. Only do this if you know about plugs and electricity.
I always try and get the Omni one if I'm buying anything like that electric... the quality of some of the electrical stuff here is atrocious, dangerous.
Never had a problem with adaptors here. Widely available at hardware stores. Buy a couple of the ones in the first picture on this thread. Cost about p40 each...and will accept 'anything'.
Cheers guys. It's only for a mobile phone charger really, all other things i'll be using will be over there already.
Hope it's ok to post this in this conversation seeing as it's rolling anyway... Does anyone have experience flying with Saidi? I see they have on board on demand in flight entertainment and was wondering if i had to pay seperayely for that or if it was just included as standard? Just off the phone to them but all they said was to check online or at the airport. Not allot of help they are.
