I looked there also when I was on the tram. I agree that most likely it will be ok. The main doubt in my mind was the Filipino passport which has more complications than the US or EU ones which are more common for transits through Dublin to the UK (as opposed to transit to France or Spain etc).

The girl has little choice but to complete immigration formalities in Dublin. The Common Travel Area is intended for ease of travel for British and Irish citizens and visas issued by the UK are not necessarily recognised by Ireland (and vice versa). Upon successful completion of the journey, I'd be interested to know how the mechanics of it all work out as there will be nobody from the UK Border Agency to welcome her to London.

As she will remain airside i would expect her to be greeted at Heathrow.

Good luck with that! There are no UKBA staff to greet ROI flights!

Here is a Flyertalk thread which actually deals with the concerns I raised (not about staying airside in Dublin or anything like that). It seems that it is a bit of a fudge, but she'll be fine. Haven't had time to read all 7 pages yet. It focuses on LHR T5, but same principle applies if flying with Aer Lingus rather than BA.

The second message in that thread appears to be key here:

"If you follow the Arrivals signs at T5 you will be taken on a route to the international baggage hall that bypasses immigration but you still need to go through customs.

If your visa requires proof of entering the UK (a passport stamp) follow the flight connections sign instead until you're through the glass door and then follow the international arrivals signs to the UK Border."

But the problem is, some flights from Dublin arrive at Heathrow Terminal 2 whilst others at Terminal 5. @SoldierRJ88 will need to check this page to find out which Terminal his girlfriend's flight arrives at. His girlfriend needs to follow the instructions in the second paragraph above (beginning with the words "If your visa requires proof of entering the UK ..."). In Terminal 5, UKBA staff appear to be located next to "Flight Connections" on Level 1 whilst in Terminal 2, UKBA is just before Baggage Reclaim on Level 1.

She should present herself to UKBA and get an Entry Stamp in her Passport to prevent any problems or delays when she flies back to Manila at the end of her visit.

I dont need luck asI wont be there.
All along i have said she will be fine I am glad you now agree!
You cannot land in a country without the correct visa in this case Ireland.wihout the correct visa.it is simple they will not land you and will keep you airside. She will then board a Heathrow bound plane and on arrival will follow instruction to go to immigration for landing.

Yes, but you have to follow the Flight Connections route for that method. What are the chances that someone would think to do this when you arrive at Heathrow, pick up your bag and suddenly find yourself in UK proper? Per that Flyertalk thread, it's a bit of a dog's dinner.

Anyway, I'm perplexed as to what Mattecube disagrees with. It is, as said before, a matter of fact that no UKBA staff are on hand to process ROI arrivals. It's fake news if you think otherwise. I hope he does agree that the girl will have to hunt down the UKBA staff which she probably wouldn't have done if everyone just insisted she stays "airside" in Dublin.

Actually there are UKBA staff to meet flights arriving at all Heathrow's five terminals including those from RoI.

The same is not true, however, at some of the smaller regional airports such as Norwich, Southend or Cardiff - to give but three examples. There UKBA only turn-up if there's a flight from outside the EU/CTA expected. I used to fly quite regularly from Manila to Cardiff with KLM via Amsterdam. There's no immigration check on arrival at Amsterdam if you're in-transit and when you de-plane at Cardiff there are neither immigration nor customs officers.

This, of course, will all change next March.

The advice @SoldierRJ88's girlfriend should follow is both clear and consistent: on arrival at Dublin and Heathrow, she should ignore the signs for "Arrivals" and, instead, follow the signs for "Flight Connections". This will ensure that she does not pass through Irish Immigration in Dublin but that she does pass through British Immigration at Heathrow. Simples, non?

That would be scandalous if an international airport in the UK has no immigration officers to meet an international (outside of the CTA) flight. KLM in particular carry a massive array of customers to all parts of the UK. Flights have been diverted and canceled due to UKBA shortages, and that should be the case whether it's the Pakistan International from Lahore or the Thomas Cook from Ibiza.

Anyways. Yes. It's simples now that we know the young lady needs to seek out UKBA through flight connections or elsewhere.

    You're welcome.
