I'm not clear what the situation is with both of Arnolds missus's jobs/payslips, better he studies the requirement and makes an informed decision himself.

In fact @arnold&nayely if you are using two jobs to meet the financial requirement you have to apply under Category B submitting 12 months payslips/bank statements. If you look at the Financial form VAF4A2 you will find there is only one box to state your current employer if using Category A, whereas using Category B gives you two boxes to either state the two jobs you have at present or present and previous job.

In a nutshell you apply using Category A if in the same salaried employment for six months or more (submit 6 months payslips/bank statements), and apply using Category B if you have two jobs or you have not been in the same employment for more than six months (12 months payslips/bank statements required. Also if you have two jobs you need to have held one of the two jobs for at least six months prior to the application. Now, on the other hand I have read that you can apply using Category A with two jobs and 6 months payslips/statements using the further information page of the application to state the second job, who knows :)

Just check and get some clarification before applying as I have read conflicting views, the visa is too expensive to take chances.

You're right @Timmers but I and Arnold have been corresponding and based on what I gather his wife has been in the same employer for more than 6 months on both jobs therefore he can apply under Category A on a non salaried basis since the salary is variable. The first job will be stated on the box given while the other will be stated on the other information and both jobs will be taken into consideration when counting the total income.

I think @arnold&nayely is getting worried about this that's why he can't really make up his mind as to what the right thing to do is...

You really have to read through the Appendix FM and understand the wording in there it clearly states which Category you should apply based on your situation. At the end of the day we don't have access to every bit of information about your wifes job and her bank statements and payslips so only yourself can clearly decide what to do.

@Brom27 I think it's a dreadful remark to suggest that someone is getting paranoid particularly in an open forum equally bad too say it to anyone other than the guy himself.
All he wants is to get the application information correct

No offence meant there and it's obviously not taken seriously by @arnold&nayely. We've been talking privately about it and obviously admitted it himself. I understand what he is going through and been in the situation myself. Might have used the wrong word there but srsly I don't mean anything to make him feel humiliated in this forum. We're alright, so you should be too..

I just don't want to argue about it. I'm easy to deal with. If something I said is not appropriate, then proper action can be done. My bad.

And please, I'm not a boy anymore...

As I said, young Arnold needs to seek professional clarification for his own situation as from what I have read there are very mixed feelings about this particular situation. The problem with reading other immigration forums you do not know if you are getting the correct information regardless of peoples good intentions and each application is different, when this situation arises it is always best to point the poster (Arnold) towards seeking advice as opposed to worrying understandably about the application.

As it says on every engineering diagram I have seen "if in doubt ask" :)

Evening all - the thing about Names has been bugging me for a while and reading the VAF Guidance Notes makes me doubt more! So I did a search before posting and found it's the same thing @arnold&nayely checked a couple pages back about given name(s)/middle name. Quite clear that we should include Jasmin's middle name with the Given Name(s) on the application, but we haven't as yet for a reason. Her middle name uses the letter N with a squiggle above it: Ñ or ñ. Called 'nya' I think, and is shown in her passport. The source of our quandary was when booking the English test. In that there was a webpage stating to ensure the names for the English test certificate exactly match the names in the ID (passport) she provides at the test, and in the case of symbols like ñ that a letter must be sent on the day of the test to the British Council or Embassy I think. But that was all it said with no further detail and it read as fairly awkward. So we just put Jasmin and her surname/family name as she doesn't generally use her middle name anyway, then the certificate will match with the names given, no problem.
But now we try the application form and have just put Jasmin under Given Name(s) so far!
One poster mentioned nothing is actually wrong and in her passport it does have Given Name, Middle Name, therefore unless you do read the guidance and see that for the application, Given Name(s) means all names except the family name, it's quite easy to miss out the middle name due to the fact Given Name means differing things for the Filipino passport and the application form.
Finally, Jasmin had her TB test and the certificate has both her first and middle names against 'Given Name (as shown in passport)', complete with ñ and everything :rolleyes:

So. We'll hopefully be getting an English cert with Jasmin [Surname], we have a TB cert with Jasmin [Middle with ñ] [Surname], her passport is Jasmin [Middle with ñ] [Surname] and I've no idea what to do with the application! To cap it off, I've just tried to key in "ñ" into the online application with Alt+164 and it won't work. So perhaps it's all academic anyway, or I just use a normal "n".
    Thoughts are very welcome! :confused::frust::blackeye:

Just use the regular n, if there is no provision to put the tilde symbol, you could also mention the fact that you've had to omit it if there is provision on the online form (further information page).

Life is never easy, blame the Spanish for colonising the Philippines, its their symbol :)

Change the language of your keyboard to the one that contains the tilde symbol in. Easy peasy really:frust:

I know from experience that it can be difficult to do that, especially when you're an old codger ~~~~~~~~~~~ :)

Try copying and pasting the name from your computer onto the online application form.

    ñ

To get the above you turn on number lock then press and hold ALT key and type on the numeric keypad 0241 (0209 for capital N with ~) and then let go of the keys :)

Thanks guys. I'll find a way to put ñ or explain it away in the extra info.

Using the Alt + number pad types ñ here OK but doesn't work in the text box. I just tried the copy/paste Timmers with interesting results - the word pastes but the text box turns a lovely shade of peach, then when I click off of the box the ñ deletes itself leaving the rest of the word!

Do you think it's best we definitely put the middle name in with the Given Name section then? And would the English test cert not having the middle name be a possible issue?

What a pain, I'd personally be reluctant to use any other name than her passport name for any official UK forms.
