    Flipina wives eh.

Typical scenario. A job needs doing--typically by the man of the house. In this case, a large heavy glass dining table top had become unstuck from its tubular metal legs. You know the sort. Its happened before with other furniture. Ive fixed them--so i knew what to expect.
A suitable Gorilla glue was bought..and i set to and dismantled the thing. Wife helped me. The leg fixing rings were duly glued on yesterday--and left as it was for 24 hours. To harden.

i worked out the best reassembly sequence, bearing in mind it was upside down, and the handling method to avoid any stress on the glued joints.

Wife came home from work--so tonight we set to to put it back together. I knew what i was doing--but--no. Right from the off she was telling me what to do--her way. Words were exchanged. As you can imagine--the whole kit n caboodle fell apart, doing it her way.

This happens all the time--she has to take over...why ?

Is it because back home the women do it all, while the filipino men watch them, beer in hand, thumb up bum, brain in neutral ?

A couple of months ago our fridge-freezer packed in..
As soon as I got back from Glasgow I went into Curry's, selected a superb Beko, same brand of he one that lasted me 24 years and placed the order.
After finishing work, she wanted to see it, so we went into Currys and immediately she decided that the Samsung one was nicer because it was not white.... I had to change the order.....
She doesn't look at the specifications and benefits of an item she buys, but how it would look to the eyes of her friends......
    It is frustrating at times.
Now, the fridge freezer has shown her the lack of space, And complains that the door is in the way, the colour doesn't go with the rest of the appliances.. blah, blah...

I think we all know that the Philippines is run by the women, so I don't think it is strange that Filipinas think they know how to do things.
In domestic disputes, sometimes we win and sometimes we lose, but these disputes at home would probably exist if we had English wives instead of filipina wives. I think it is just a man versus woman thing.

Perhaps it is easy for me in that we never have visitors in the house, my wife hates chismiss (gossiping) and this started as soon as she met Filipinas in the UK not long after she arrived. She said the women were comparing their husbands/partners too much.
I had to laugh because one wife told my wife that her husband was in a better job because he was a school janitor whereas I was just a truck driver o_O

Surely there are more important things to concentrate on than husbands' jobs, but what do I know?

My son and his team just beat Quezon, Mandaluyong and Pasay in a regional school volleyball tournament lasting 5 days, his team finally lost against Manila University of the East but I am very proud of his efforts, he was going to give up a while back because of how hard the training was but he went back and stuck at it, he won his very first competitive tournament a few months back and now his school is ranked number 1 in Luzon.

This picture below was him getting a most valued player award (MVP) in his first tournament a few months ago.

Stereotypes are comforting to some but there are plenty of fine young and old Filipinos as well.

There are plenty of bums everywhere in this world, but you don't get to tar an entire population with one brush, they have a lot of talent in Science, Engineering, Sport and Entertainment and elsewhere, give them some encouragement to do better for once.

One of my Filipino friends is an internationally respected specialist in seaweed science, another is in my own field and is an extremely talented software developer/programmer, the country is full of undervalued talent, the lack of value is not their fault but that of their political class.

But............. There are also plenty who conform to the type I described. I have a friend in Canada, filipino, he is a professor, he is an exception, there are still plenty of lassinguero sabongueros in the Philippines.

But this could lead on to the question, why do so many Filipinas want to marry western men?

I think Filipinas think all Western men are very wealthy, and they hope they dream of having white-skinned babies one day too.
They get a big shock when they see that many Westerners work 60+ hours a week.

One important thing for all Western men to remember is that all Filipinos (females and males) are incredibly hard working when they arrive in their new countries as wives or as OFW's.

I beg to disagree, not all, I can think of a few examples, most yes, but certainly not all.

I suppose my view is shaped by the Filipinas I have seen in the UK. I have not met any Filipino men in the UK. Companies really have a high regard for Filipinos' work ethic.
Likewise, when I was working with offshore vessels; management and heads of departments were always so keen for the men to come back because Filipinos rarely moan about the work compared to other nationalities.
"All" was too strong a word, I should have typed "most".

Your example is a tricky one, bigmac.
Don't take this personally but, if it was me with that table, I would have told my wife to keep her nose out and help me only when requested. If it broke when you did it, at least you did your best!
