What NHS Treatment Is Available To Our Loved Ones In The UK

The loved one has been told she has to have an operation soon, nothing serious but I was just wondering what NHS treatment is available. She has received a letter stating that she may not be entitled to free NHS hospital treatment but I think its just a formality (fill in a couple of forms) to get it sorted out. From what I gather, anyone married or en route to settlement is entitled.

Has anyone here had a similar experience?

I think it is actually good that they are checking on the status of people waiting for operations, I know we have discussed similar issues here before. Any feedback would be appreciated :)

Well............ My dearest wife, has been working steadily for over 7 years without taking a sick day and also missing out on holiday pay, on some occasions........... It only in the last couple of months that she has availed herself of SSP, as it is her right, due to not being able to go to work because of sciatica.
She is in total agony at times, with severe lower back pains. I wish she could go back to work, she's doin' me' head in..........

Nothing worst than genuine back pain, years back I slipped a disc, six months off work with lots of agony, physiotherapy , and lots of wondering whether I would ever work again. One thing I did learn about bad backs is that the medical profession arn't as well up on treating back injuries as they are with most illnesses and injuries, still seems a bit of a grey area for them. Still to this day I know to start taking it easy when I start getting the old tingling sensation down my leg. Best advice I could give to anyone with a bad back is to not carry too much weight, but as we all know that's easier said than done.

Any and all. The same as you and me.

My wife gave birth here on the NHS before she gained ILR and had both pre and post natal attention. No differentiation has been made.

Same for dentistry and the opticians. And prescriptions.

    Same for her friends.

Back to the topic, Wife had an operation in UK after just being in the UK for 6 months. Get her booked in, and hopefully a speedy recovery.

Thanks Jim, its only a gall bladder removal, should be in and out in one day apparently. Good thing is that the problem was found when she went to the doctors for high blood pressure tablets, the doctor insisted that she had a kidney scan before prescribing similar drugs to what she had in the Philippines, they found the problem during the kidney scan. So it is a case of the good old NHS as it probably would never have been picked up in the Philippines. She just has to make an appointment now where she has to prove her entitlement which should be no problem.

I had that done in 2005. They were going to do keyhole but they couldnt find my gall bladder so had to give me a wonky cesarian type approach. It left me scarred as if I had had an encounter with a Glaswegian in the early hours of saturday morning. But my circumstance was unusual.

I had the operation done through BUPA. But strangely enough if I had gone with the NHS it would have been the same surgeon.
