So I've decided where in the UK, I'll be heading to. I've got a mate back from my university days who has a place in Swansea. He'll be back in the UK around August, and he told me I can crash at his place until I set myself up. I also have a job offer at one of the universities there.

So anyone from Swansea? How is life over there?

I've been browsing pictures from the Internet, and it looks quite nice! Though I'm still skeptical as it might be Photoshopped. Hahahahahah...

Never been there, Knight. I know very little about it.

It's still alright. I can still understand the accent.

Reminds me very much of the HMPO call-centre agents who answer my calls, every time I ask for passport updates. lol.

We do have some resident "Taffs" that are from that neck of the woods. No doubt they will tell you about the delights of Swansea.

I have stopped in a place called Mumbles a couple of times, a pleasant enough place just a little further down the coast from Swansea.

If you don't like it there you can always move on and find somewhere more suitable to your needs.

I'm sure some of the Welsh chaps on the site will give you an insight into Swansea. If you are working at the University there it will at least open opportunities up for you to date a young redhead or two.

    Yeah its alright :like:

I'm sure I answered this on another thread, but Swansea (or Abertawe in Welsh, meaning Mouth of the River Tawe) is located on the main London - Swansea trainline, with plenty of trains, at peak every 30 minutes. The M4 passes Swansea, with quick links into Cardiff, Bristol and London and Carmarthen towards the West. Theres many shops, department stores, hotels and leisure activities in the city itself, but its beyond Swansea where the beauty lies - the Gower is a short drive away and Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire is within an hours drive with beautiful beaches, countryside and outdoor activities such as walking, boating, etc. As they say in South Wales, its 'lush, butt', but dont say that in Swansea or they'll think your from Newport or the valleys.;)

Some basic Welsh to help you on your way:

Hello = Shwd mae? - pronounced "shoe my"
Good thanks = Iawn diolch - pronounced "yown dee-ol-ck (as in clock)"
Good morning = Bore da - pronounced "bor-e(as in egg) da"
Goodbye = Hwyl fawr -pronounced "hoy-il vower"
Wheres England from here? = Ble mae Lloegr oddi yma - pronounced "I'm bloody lost innit!"
Sheep - defaid - pronounced err Baa
I like red haired ladies - Rwy'n hoffi merched gwallt coch - dont ask how to say that, but pretend to spit and stumble over words and it'll sound about right.

I hope I don't get punch or slap by angry Welsh people when I try saying those there.
