yes been here over two years FLR due end of December, two questions her passport with the Visa in is in her maiden name that runs out soon after the FLR is needed if we go philippine embassy renew passport but in married name will this affect the FLR application? is it best to do the FLR then change passport name or keep her maiden name in the new passport? we have been married 5 years got that done in the phils but didnt change the passport name before we got the settlement visa probably a mistake, what do people think the best course of action is i know the BRP has to be updated on a name change, maybe keep the maiden name until after the ILR is to be done or change it who knows.

we are preparing for ILR and my wifes passport and BRP are in her maiden name and we have seen no reason to change it plus we havent had time to changee it as we have needed it on a regular basis for travel and her daughters visa applications. She will be applying for ILR in October this year and then British citizenship at this point her British passport will be in her married name.

weve got 9 months to worry about that.

Its pretty straightforward if you start scanning docs 6 month previous (if relying on wages etc)
Broad steps and less stressful than doing them altogether
Scan wage slip each week and file on pc (we had a desk top folder called FLR wage slips) upto the week of putting in application
Scan each month bank statements or if on internet banking download and save each month up to point of application 28 day rule
Scan usual stuff like passport biometric page birth and marriage certificate (ready for if asked for)
scan letters of proof of living together

When you complete the application at the end there is a link for uploading docs, this direct you to Sopra steria you set up an account and upload the folders you have saved, the system will tell you mandatory or useful it then tells you to give each upload file a name like "wage slip" you can add or delete as you go along you can also open the sopra account at anytime to add or delete then submit

So on your FLR visa you still used the maiden name but when you get ILR still in maiden name you will then apply for nationality and U/K passport is that correct and then put the married name in there?

in our case my wife will most likely keep her present surname. after all--if film stars and famous women can do it--so can we.

thanks for that have you renewed your wives passport since in U/K and you kept it in her maiden name, I expect you have if you have been here nearly 5 years.

she renewed her phili passport last year--in her present name--which isnt her maiden name. she was married before--to a filipino--and has 2 kids with him. so she has kept her name the same as her kids. it also saves a lot of tsismis on facebook.

she arrived february 2016. married in april--applied 1st flr may 2016..so 5 years will be up next may.

Another question I have we arrived here in U/K 19/07/18 my wives BRP card says runs out 16/04/21 that is more than 2 and a half years stay by 3 months which date do we go by the BRP card or the date we arrived here to apply for FLR..

From the U/K site it says this
Your BRP expiry date is usually the same as the expiry date of your visa. To get a new BRP, you must first apply to extend your visa.

If it is granted, you will automatically get a new BRP. You cannot use the BRP replacement service.
So that is good news we have 3 more months than we thought.

First spouse visa if applying from overseas is 33 months long - gives three months to move even though vignette is only for 30 days.

Also reason why IHS charge is for three years instead of 2.5 years as the round up to nearest six month period.

Anyone know how to get an appointment at the embassy in London to renew passport not taking any bookings not answering the phone anyone got a number to get through on or help in how to get an appointment?

You turn up..take a numbered ticket off the roll and wait your turn..in the heat and stink of 100 or so other bodies crammed into 2 small waiting rooms and a corridor. Its disgusting. A disgrace to its country

Are you sure that is the system right now on the website you have to make a booking but there are non available it says how the hell are you meant to renew passport.

maybe because of covid--i wouldnt want to be stuck in the same room as dozens of others for hours.

email them for an answer. they did reply to my emails..although their answer was completely wrong.

have emailed to see their reply with no passport or out of date because you cant renew how do you renew visa, their appointments page has no slots right up to December.

Are you trying to ring before 1030 if so they will not answer as they have new opening hours from 10.30.
