MPs should be a bit more careful, I'm sure she is merely ignorant rather than being a full blown racist.

She narrowly held her seat in 2017, and there are unsurprising calls for her to resign her seat.

There's also been a backlash against the Tory MPs who failed to challenge her turn of phrase.

Conservatives, from a majority to a minority, and thinning out still.

    "And soon there were none"

    Ooops!

Always amazes me that many black Rap stars go out of their way to use the term "Nigga" in their songs, and to refer to each other. Generally mixed in with a lot of abusive swear words.

Of course they spell it differently. ;)

I was tempted to post a couple of you tube vids, but don't want to cause offence, I can't stand the music either.

I'm sure you appreciate the different meanings that the word has.

The fact is, she will still vote for Tory policies, and she will have the whip restored at a time when everyone has forgotten about it.

To be honest I feel a bit sorry for her. She was a bit unwise to use the 'unmentionable in a woodpile' phrase but it looked like a slip of the tongue to me and, for me, nothing sticks in the throat more or has a more cloying taste than the fake politically motivated outrage being expressed by the rest of the politicians. I think she deserves a break. I don't believe she deserves to lose her job.

I don't know about that. I have roughly equal contempt for almost all modern politicians. To me they are indistinguishable in their collective incompetence.

It is cases like this, plus the 4th Viscount of St Davids, Rhodri Philipps, calling Gina Miller "a first generation immigrant who should be sent back to the jungle" which make Remoaners like me very dissatisfied.

The referendum and so many elections are decided by this lunatic fringe. Don't get me wrong, the Left are guilty of having an unpleasant lunatic fringe also. However, I'd sooner take the left wing nutters than the right wing racists.

It's come to a point where I simply don't recognise my country any more. Well, actually I do recognise it. We've gone back to the 80s. Yay for progress.

I don't, it highlights the hypocrisy of modern day political correctness.

In a way it does but a word can have different meanings. It's just become a social convention that this word has different meanings depending on the speaker and the tone. The only thing that makes a word offensive is the intent in the mind of the speaker. The word itself is nothing without that.

When I lived in the USA the word is referred to as 'the N word'. It is generally unacceptable for a white person to use it. It has become OK for black people to use it. Britain is heavily influenced by American attitudes.

There's a lot of ridiculous PC stuff about race - remember the debate about whether blackboard was offensive? And if blackboard was offensive, then was whiteboard? Personally I believe that people should just lighten up. There are more important things in life to spend time and energy on than puerile tattle. Even politicians should have something more pressing on their minds in these times.

I guess I just need to spell it out when I use it as a greeting.

Are you sure that I will be OK?

I put this on the Brexit Scexit thread not realising that it belongs here:

Ann-Marie Morris, Brexit zealot, uses the n word on a panel with John Redwood and Bill Cash..

Do these pillars of the Brexit movement react? No, they don't even blink.

So that's three pillars of the Brexit campaign who show themselves to be racists.

The good news - she's been suspended - what do we call that - ONE DOWN...

    Party Seats
    Conservative 316 CALL THAT 315
    Labour 262
    Scottish National Party 35
    Liberal Democrat 12
    Democratic Unionist Party 10
    Sinn Féin 7 (don't sit)
    Plaid Cymru 4
    Independent 2
    Green Party 1
    Speaker 1 (doesn't count)
    Total number of seats 650

    642 - (315+10) = 317.
    315 +10 = 325

    8 to go!

True, but this is politics, over a matter of national importance, and if she can be got rid of by legal means, so much the better, so whether she deserves it or not, I hope she does lose her job (she won't, of course... as you rightly say she will have the whip restored as soon as nobody is looking!)

I have narrowly avoided throwing up - listening to a Tory woman on The World at One telling us that "she hasn't got a racist bone in her body or a racist thought in her head".

She obviously does have racist thoughts in her head because one popped out!
