    I found the day or two after receiving the email saying a decision had been made and waiting for the decision/visa was the longest.

    Less than 3 weeks so far. I am beginning to regret putting 15 October as the visa start date, should have made it 15 August, but my wife prefers to serve out 4 weeks notice for her job, rather than quit with little or no notice.

    Very decent of her indeed Howerd, I think you're right about the visa date, you know what they say, "a person who hasn't made mistakes hasn't done anything."

    The time will pass soon enough :)

    Decent of me to let her stay and work out the four-week period @Timmers! She wil spend the time changing her name with government departments and staying with mum and dad for about 3 weeks. I reckon on her coming here around 20 October - at the moment the flights to Humberside and not that expensive but it means flying KLM for at least part of the journey and their one-way ticket prices are not so good,

    You seem to have everything very well organized Howerd, its always niggled me why one way tickets cost so much, its not just flights, it appears to be most modes of transport. I hope she settles in well when she arrives and that she finds a good job she enjoys, a few more quid coming into the household is always welcome too :)

    @Timmers The low cost carriers price outgoing and return journeys separately. So, if Cebu Pacific offered routes to the UK, they should be pretty cheap, especially when first starting a route, but I have looked into all the options and flying to our local airport is best for my wife.

    Is it going to be KLM Amsterdam to Hull for the final leg?

    One way tickets on KLM are the best time to spend KLM Flying Blue miles. :like:

    KLM is a very good airline for UK regional connections, will she be flying with KLM all the way from MNL, or does the one way ticket dictate a more devious route?

    @Dave_E

    China Southern from Manila to Amsterdam. then KLM CityHopper. One way KLM ticket from Manila to Humberside is way too expensive.

    Yes we are lucky to have KLM at Humberside - it is the only scheduled International airline flying to Hull. Just wish RyanAir was at Humberside but Robin Hood Airport is not far away.

    Yes, KLM from MNL to HUY is almost the same for a single ticket as for a return ticket from the UK to MNL despite the fact that there is no UK departure tax involved!

    @Dave_E

    One some flights from Amsterdam to Humberside it is actually cheaper to buy a return ticket starting from Humberside and not make use of the outgoing ticket!

    Here is an example flying KLM CityHopper direct flights (cheapest from Skyscanner)

    RETURN TICKET
    Outgoing HUY to AMS 31 October
    Return AMS to HUY 6 November
    Total Price: £157

    SINGLE TICKET
    AMS to HUY 6 November
    Total Price: £246

    I just paid $1200 per person Manila to Heathrow single on Philippines Airlines. Cathay were $1800 return and didn't offer singles.

    You can't buy a return ticket and not make use of the outgoing leg and just use the return leg. It's a violation of the terms and conditions of the airline ticket and they will just cancel your entire ticket if you fail to show and fail to rebook your outward leg with them. Airlines aren't stupid and have cottoned onto that, and also 'hidden city' ticketing where people catch a flight 'via' someplace else and then jump off at the 'via' point without checking in luggage (obviously).
