I have never been comfortable with the media when they do interviews with victims of disaster, I watched all of that report and to interview that poor man towards the end was a terrible way to treat him when he had just lost someone.
Good News they say no deaths there Mike Might these guys be a good and direct way to help for folk such as methersgate is asking?
I was somewhat surprised by that, no, shocked is the word. Utter devastation in that barangay, very sad indeed.
I'm now doing my nut and I've not even seen any of the videos. Tried calling the wife to see how she is and got no answer. I know she's ok in Olongapo but just need to talk to her to she if she's doing ok. After seeing pictures of the devistation in Tacloban I'm not holding out alot of hope for the family in the province. The only very thin hope is that as they are on the west side of Samar in a fairly sheltered bay the seas might not have picked up too much so the storm surge will be lower. Doesn't help that 70% of bulding there are wood and there is no roads. Access is only by boat or walking in. I think its going to be a while until aid, if any get there.
Olongapo is fine - they had "nothing special" - but you know that. Samar looks like a hell of a mess.
BBC radio today said 1,000 dead in Tacloban. Terrible When you see little Tacloban girls who look like your own daughter crying.....it is too much to watch. The affection we receive from Filipinos when we are there and the love we have from our wives and children makes us feel this tragedy also.
I'm sort of glad I cant see these vids on utube etc. There is a very real possibility of fatalitises in the wifes family. I'll be amazed if they all come through this. Sorry, not feeling very positive at the moment
Thousands of people are now being reported as dead or missing. And now this is reported to be worse then the 2004 Tsunami
Super Typhoon Haiyan - Yolanda Recovery Search that group on facebook, at the moment its my main source of information. Its saying the road route from manila to tacloban is now clear so hopefully more relief efforts will start to get through
The "1,000 dead in Tacloban" is an estimate given by the Philippine Red Cross whose spokesman believes the death toll for Leyte may be as high as 30,000. There's still no word from southern Samar. I've just spoken with my daughter in the UK (on Skype) and she is both surprised and annoyed that there is no effort being made by British charities to raise funds for relief effort as there was after hurricane Katrina, for example.
That's an interesting figure from Dick Gordon. I'm afraid that post-typhoon debris is not at all photogenic. This may account for the feeble response from the UK.
