Thanks everyone. My lot are all OK - either north or south of the track or they live in Canlaon, in Negros, which gets pasted every time, being high on the side of the volcano, and people there build accordingly. Besides, when you live seven miles from an active volcano, what's a mere supertyphoon?
It was on the BBC news again. Even showed Aquino making an address on the subject. This below man braves the elements to report the weather:
It's lost some of its clout going over the mountains, signal 4 now as it pass's over north Palawan, then towards Vietnam. Let's hope we don't have any more monsters.
OMG what a mess Tacloban is, looks like a war zone. I recognise quite a few places there - Travellers Inn, McDo and Jollibees. McDo is right next to the waterfront, and I'm guessing they took the full force of the storm. Elsa still has no contact with her family north of Tacloban. We're hoping everything's ok.
No reports from Manila yet from my lot, fully understand everyone else's worries, hope nobody suffers too badly, looks like no one will get through it easily.
Someone on the Living In Cebu forum said it ripped through Malapascua. My wife's island is close...Her sister is still on Malapascua. I am very nervous but my wife is silent. Her family's house has hollow block so I am hoping they're all ok. I feel uneasy and "not with it" right now waiting for bad news as my usual optimism has deserted me
Haven't heard anything since last night, which is hardly surprising considering brown outs and low batt on the cell phones... Mrs is pacing around like demented at the moment... I am trying like mad to get some kind of communication going.
Manila is ok, very strong gusts of wind. It's the Visayas that's hit hard. A uni classmate of mine posted aftermath pictures of Cebu and it isn't very pretty. Hopefully power will be restored over the weekend.

SUPER TYPHOON HAIYAN HITS THE PHILIPPINES; BEST COMMENT Posted in CNN website: Time to get to the know the hardy Filipino people...unbelievably resilient, long suffering, good natured, uber friendly, loyal, ingenious, and a bunch of survivors. At the end of the day the Filipinos will just shake off the dirt from their clothes and thongs and go about their business...and SMILE. They do not complain much, they will bear as long as they can. Maybe this is why they were given the "privilege" of bearing the burden of the strongest typhoon ever recorded. The indomitable human spirit at its finest. http://wheninphilippines.wordpress....ilippines-best-comment-posted-in-cnn-website/ http://edition.cnn.com/2013/11/08/world/asia/philippines-typhoon-haiyan/?hpt=hp_t1
Hi Keith, I posted the same message from Thresher Divers before also but it never showed up - it could have been my fault. We have family on Malapascua and Carnaza islands. Still no contact on the phone yet. Hopefully today, I am sure my wife will be trying a lot.
We've still heard nothing. Elsa is very worried now. Even her sisters in Manila have been unable to reach Nanay and Tatay, and Elsa's sister 5 children. I hope they are ok. There's rumours going round the subdivision where they live has seen a few deaths, but we are hoping its not true. Tacloban looks absolutely devastated, with many deaths, along with Palo where some of Elsa's extended family live. Horrible, just horrible.
"Thongs"...??? Yeah, I suppose if I had just gone through something like that, I would have to scrape some stuff off my Thongs and all............
Search this on facebook - Super Typhoon Haiyan - Yolanda Recovery Some pictures of Tacloban, I cant see the videos as utube is blocked at work. Still no comms with the family. I'm getting quite worried but the wife seems pretty calm. I don't think she realises quite oh bad this is.
Jeez. Tacloban is just about wiped out. Scenes of the devastation start at about two minutes into this video. Really brings it home when it shows the victims bodies being carefully pulled out of the ruins.
