Thats it. We walked the 20 minute walk down the road to file for my wife's passport renewal and name change. We were given a time, 10.30am and it took approximately 1.5 hours to go through the motions. We hope to see her new passport in 6 to 8 weeks. They post it to us by Special Delivery (paid for by us). Cost £43.00 plus the postage of £8.45. Once in the Manx Legion the scene was organised chaos. The Philippine Embassy staff hardly being discernible from those applying for their services. There was one table to take in the documents and application form. One to take the money and one to take a photo of the applicant and put the final touches to the application. Right at the end we witnessed approximately 8 pinoys swearing allegiance to the Philippines in applying for Dual Citizenship (reapplying for Philippine Citizenship in the process). The bar was open. Though I had cup of tea and a packet of crisps.
Sounds like you had a good day out John amongst the chaos. I like the idea of the Philippine Embassy road shows
Yes, a trip to London can be great but it didn't suit us right now. So this alternative worked out well for us.
It was supposed to be in a local hotel but when I arrived I was told by the (Filipina) girl at the desk that it was in the Manx Legion Club. Another issue we had was that they wanted £43.00 UK and not £43.oo Manx. So I had to go to the ATM that spits out UK quids. Other than that it worked well.
Didn't realise the IOM had its own version of Sterling, you'll be telling me next that you're fluent in Manx
I think thats it. It isnt sterling. When I visited the Philippines the money changers wouldnt touch Manx pounds and they knew the difference too.
Not certain. We will find out at the end of the year. Mrs Ash is eligible for British Citizenship from 1st October onwards. I believe God Save the Queen isn't sung. A Manx Anthem is sung instead.
" The Isle of Man will host a special visit by the Filipino Ambassador to the UK this weekend, as part of an event set up by the Island’s Filipino Association. A two-day outreach will see consulate workers helping members of the Filipino community on the Isle of Man. But Ambassador Manalo will also be here to meet politicians and Tynwald members along with the 1,000 people from the Phillipines living here. Association president Maria Loudon-Brown says it’ll be a special occasion:Clip 1 " http://www.isleofman.com/News/details/63310/filipino-ambassador-to-visit-this-weekend
Well. Thats it. Approximately 7 weeks after she applied, just down the road in the Manx Legion, for my wifes Filipino Passport renewal. It has arrived. Saved an expensive trip to London. Her surname in her passport matches mine now.
Philippine Embassy outreach dates for later this year.... Cardiff - July Glasgow - September 20-21 Dublin - October 18-19
I really like the idea of this Philippines outreach service and we will hopefully make use of it in the future. Saves a lot of time and hassle which cannot be a bad thing.
They will only consider Sterling, Scottish bank notes are not accepted either, I used to visit the bank before a trip begging for English twenty's which were often in short supply.
