Yet another ludicrous law being introduced! Apparently the taking of selfies in public is an intrusion into the privacy of anyone who just might happen to be in the background. There doesn't seem to be much about it online, but I did find this. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/919...hilippines-what-is-house-bill-4807-all-about/
Erm, if this is really the case they have just banned all photography in the Philippines. Show me anywhere in the Philippines that you can take a picture that does not have someone in the background
Security camera's will also become illegal and subject to a law suit by the criminals breaking into your home.
I thought that too. It's probably someone in authority not liking it because it's "new" and therefore "threatening".
No it is because they want to censor the entire population, no one can take a picture of a celebrity without paying them, no one can take a picture of a politician, never mind a compromising picture of a politician, they don't give a toss about the man in the street, this is a law to suppress the rights of the majority and enhance the freedom of the rich and powerful, it is yet another law designed to silence the Philippine people and put them firmly in their place as the serfs they are to their lords and masters. An absolutely appalling law if it gets passed!
This is not just a ban on taking selfies but a ban on public photography, period. Will this not also kill off the tourist trade? Or will tourists be exempt from this ludicrous law? And what of Google Street view vans? How will TV present news stories of events in public places? And no more YouTube videos of the Philippines! If this law is passed I can see a camera-wielding tourist getting killed, which would be sure to put a serious dent in the tourist trade even in the ban alone did not.
Well who in the Philippines is going to buy a camera or a cellphone with a camera when it could land them with a civil law suit, it will hurt many many businesses as well, all the way from SM down to the small camera shops and cellphone stalls. It also becomes something to bash foreigners with, we have all heard of various ways a foreigner can be entrapped from someone jumping out in front of their car in order to get compensation for their family next we will see people jumping into shot so they can get the police on you to extort some peso on the spot, it really is ludicrous.
If they pass this, you can bet that sometime in the future they will elevate it or part of it from a civil to a criminal offence.
The really laughable thing about all this is that it is nigh on impossible to point a camera in the direction of any Filipino without them turning round smiling hugely and wonderfully and raising two fingers in the peace sign (or accidentally the other sign half the time because they don't know the difference) desperate to have their photo taken. One of the things I really love about the country.
I think there are privacy problems using one of those to take photos in the UK. I think a licence is now required if one of these is used for commercial photography. Incidentally, my neighbour's son built one of these using parts made by a 3d printer - cost about £8,000 but he gets paid well in his computer security work for the British army. BTW, the one in the photo is a DJI Phantom - costs under £500.
