We used to read about many stories regarding new partners from over there.
Not many these days with the costs required to satisfy the government's visa rules and the cost of living burden on Brits.
    Flight costs also high too.

I think it's a combination of all three, If things had been similar 5/6/7 years ago I very much doubt that I would have been able to afford the visa route, primarily because of the current income requirement, I would not have a problem flying with the Chinese airlines I used them when I visited China on 3/4 occasions so using them to get to the Philippines ain't a problem for me, cost of living it's the utilities that seem to be the causing of a lot of the issues about affordability. The alternative then as it is now is taking the plunge and going to live in the Philippines and for me the biggest issue would have been health care costs, which is something that we all need sooner or later.

Yep, it's a bummer for those in a ldr.

I still cannot make my mind up whether to take us back or stay here... think we'll have to try it for a year or two and then see what everyone thinks... cost of living in UK frightens me

Phil, it isn't just the UK that is suffering with illegal entries (boat people) when we visited Rome a couple of years ago the people living rough around the area of Rome central station was in the hundreds, I feel sure it will be the same in many of the EU countries, I can think of only one way to stop the actual boats arriving in the UK  ( I dare not put it in print) and what we do with them when they do get here ? this is a european problem and needs to be tackled by europe, it's no use pretending any more because this problem is not going away, as a beginning the open borders policy needs to be ditched, human rights what a load of cobblers, and refugee stay in the first safe country that you arrive in is being abused by almost every illegal immigrant, as an example one of our local car washes the owner is from Kazakstan how the heck is GB the first safe country he arrived in ?, it frustrates me that the do bloody gooders have ruined this country and continue to do so.

More than 200 immigrants have died crossing the channel since 2018. I have said all along, the navy should have blown the first boat out of the water. It would have stopped all further boats in their tracks and the lives lost would have been far less than it is today ! To hell with what we think the rest of the world would say. Racist or not, it is a fact that the majority of illegal foreign influx into the UK is extremely damaging for everything and everyone British.

saying that, the immigration burden is just a drop in the ocean compared with our own. I work part time taking 2 autistic children to school. The parents are part Autistic, their first born was severely autistic and they choose to have 3 more ! One parents is so big and full of health problems they have a home carer. They have the brand new mobility estate car on the drive of their taxpayer provided 5 bed house. The cost of their care, travel, housing and benefits from the taxpayer without getting out of bed is close to 1 million per year, and they are a common case !!

Your second paragraph shown above highlights all that is wrong with the system and why these economic migrants risk their lives to get here, I am all for the welfare state but not for it being abused, yes by all means support the first child but make it clear that's if they choose to have any more children then their will be no further Tax payer funded support, as for this mobility car crap that gets my goat, their are 2 maybe 3 in our street of 16 properties that have these mobility cars, I believe they also get road tax paid for, do they need these cars to get round ? No, arghhhhhhhh you have started me off now.

i'm sure a fair number of mobility scheme users already had a car, and sold it when their free car arrived. I know of one.

back in the early 2000s i went on a day coach trip to calais--solely for the purchase of fags for my ( then ) wife. Calais was heaving with illegals trying to get to Britain. We were warned to keep in a group as those people were dangerous--and would mug anyone for the price of a meal. The coach was thouroughly searched by ( British ) police looking for stowaways before we returned.
    Hateful place.

Totally agree, the very annoying thing about it is they have this brand new car yet also get me and a paid assistant to take the 2 youngest to school and back, while they sit at home filling out claim and benefit forms !

Great for you, mate but we used to read about many new relationships ten years or so ago and it's just a trickle now. Hardly anyone goes over there these days as flight costs are too high.

Heyya guys, long time no see. lol

I'm actually going to start with the spouse visa process next year.

I'll be marrying my girlfriend from the PH and hopefully bring her here to the UK after.

I'm worried a bit because the financial requirement has increased. I'm making 28K+ a year but the requirement is 29 so a couple of hundred short.

Though I've read they count the combined salary of both couples.

My fiancee from PH has a well-paying job in PH and earns the equivalent in gbp. Her boss also told her they'll allow her to stay at her job for a couple of months even when she comes to the UK.

So fingers crossed, things go smooth.

It's been a long long time young man good to see you here again, a real Filipino-Brit! :)

How has life been for you in the UK?

You've been here in the UK a good while now, are you still in London or have you moved on around the country?
