    One of the requirements is:

'Affidavit of invitation and support (financial support/safety/medical insurance) notarized and authenticated by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate which has jurisdiction over the destination or host country (if will be required by counselor/facilitator)'

What are they asking for here? They want me to contact the Philippine Embassy in London to ask them to notarize an invitation letter? Surely this isnt required, did anyone have to do this?

Ive just looked on the Philippine Embassy website and the notarization of documents is by appointment only. I live in Scotland, does anyone know if this can be done online.

    Applies to USA!
It really is all a lot of fuss over nothing!
For my wife and her daughter I just wrote a letter (1page) telling them I would be supporting my wife and her daughter told them that they could look through the pack to see my financial standing( this was pre 2018 before scanning of documents was introduced) told them any questions to contact me also sent copy of my biometric page from passport..
Through out all our applications 7 in total through the stages of spouse visa to BC never spoke to a solicitor.
Yankee stuff your reading form In the main

Where have you read this requirement? Can you provide a link to the page, or was it in a direct communication, e.g. an email?

Requirements do change, alarmingly often, but it might help to see the requirements in context...
My fiancée (now wife), for example, simply had to book & attend the CFO seminar - after she had her passport returned, with the Fiancée Visa in it - before she could board a plane to the UK.

    Text from Google search

Affidavit of Support, also called the Form I-864, is a document an individual signs to accept financial responsibility for the applicant who is coming to live in the United States. The person who signs the Affidavit of Support is also called the “sponsor.”

Yes… maybe required but do they realistically envisage every applicants spouse/ partner to go touring the country NO, a strong invite letter access to copies of your financial standing use the ones you uploaded! Copy of receipt for nhs surcharge (covers insurance bit in point8)
Don’t forget they are looking for potential traffickers not honed Dan and his missus.
Arm her with all the docs you uploaded they satisfied the British government!

Did your wife have success with her CFO appointment? I'm looking into it all with my fiance and it confuses the heck and is causing unnecessary stress imo!! What did she have to take with her / upload in the end?

My wife travelled down to Cebu City for the CFO appointment back in 2008. It is required.
Perhaps others with more up-to-date details will expand on this.
From what I can remember, Filipinas are told about what to do if they have serious problems like abuse when they arrive in the UK.

I can understand that importance of it but its such a headache for those of us with legitimate relationships. Is it the same for guys? as my fiance is male... I assume he would still need the CFO sticker?

I would think so as it is a sticker in the passport that shows the Filipino national has done the CFO seminar which gives information about what to do if they encounter any abuse. Females can be abusers too, not as often but it does happen.

NHS surcharge what is that? There is no mention of that in the list.

sorry yes I see that in point 8 now. I’ve looked online about it and it says that you are exempt from this if the visa is six months or less, you just have to pay the NHS at time you use it. It looks like I would need it for the spouse visa.

As you mention a 'Visa for 6-months or less' I presume you are talking about a Tourist/Visitor Visa?

Would strongly recommend you get some kind of travel insurance, as even the NHS - if paying 'at point of use' - could become expensive if you were to suffer a serious injury or illness.

When my wife came here as a fiancee (Fiance(e) Visa period is NOT COVERED by the IHS Surcharge (for using the NHS)) I looked at travel insurance to cover the 6-month period and it was expensive, but gave peace of mind (That's the whole point of insurance IMO).

i mean fiance visa as it is only 6 months or less so the nhs surcharge does not apply. I will look into travel insurance.

The travel insurance should be issued by a Philippine branch of whatever insurer you use, it's not really legal to try to buy a UK travel insurance policy for a foreigner coming to the UK.

UK travel insurance unlikely to pay. Sure we had expat medical insurance policy as opposed to travel insurance as my understanding was it was anywhere in terms of coverage. Philippines travel insurance limits are low which is big issue with policies issued there
