Most of them think it is Thailand, in their heads Thailand is where Brits get girlfriends, Thailand might as well be the whole of Asia.
We are lucky to know the Philippines quite well. It reminds me of words from a reggae song I have somewhere; "Those who feel it, know it".
Ana's sister is a wee bit simple, but a lovely nice lady, to her I still come from London no matter how often I try to explain about Scotland and she wants me to get her a boyfriend in London so she can visit her friend Irma in Germany
Not so sure about that John... My Mrs was in the UK for 22 years and her best friend was a Thai.... To be honest,if I did not know them I may of thought they were sisters!
My wife and I took our son to a local hairdressers recently and one of the hairdressers asked me a very personal question, in the way many Filipinos would, "Is your wife Thai, did you meet her in a bar?"
I must concede... I have!!! Apparently I was singing it in my sleep the other night after overhearing it in a Karaoke party for the 85th time...(According to the Mrs).. Think this topic deserves a thread of its own. Should I?
I base my perceptions upon thousands of hours spent in videoke bars mostly with the songs selected by people who I hardly know - if I know them at all. When you are close to them/related to them, they are a skewed sample. Your tastes, are intertwined with theirs. You with your Western tastes, influence them. 90% plus of Filipinos have no direct foreigner influences at all. Tagalog songs are the most popular selections, but of the English selections,Victims of Love' is right up there as one of the more popular English songs. It is one of many western songs that are clearly much more popular in the Philippines, than they are in the UK. It is primarily a girls' song, but boys sometimes do sing it. The record is by a male singer, but that is not so relevant. Filipinos identify with the song more than the singer. 'Victims of Love' is played a lot on the radio too. It's just a popular song. The Philippines is in Asia. The market for western-type pop music is different to what it is in the West. Not quite as different as Japan. But different all the same. I agree few people in the UK have much idea about the Philippinhas Unless they come into contact with the NHS or the care industry, it is highly unlikely that they have met anybody from there. They don't know anyone who has ever been there. They have never bought anything from there. They have never eaten in a Filipino restaurant. The Philippines, unlike Korea, has never hosted the Olympic Games. In the past 30 years, on only two occasions has the Philippines been where the top foreign news story has come from - despite it being one of the most populous countries in the world. There is valid reasons why few people in the UK have much idea about the Philippines. But I'll bet you a crate of San Miguel Grandes anyday that priportionally more people in the UK have heard of Manila than Filipinos have heard of London.
I dont drink out of Grande bottles.. Dont tell me you buy a warm one and then let them sell you ice?....OMG!!
Wow amazing, you actually learned how to start a sentence with a capital letter Regards the bit of your post I highlighted, dinnae teach yer granny to suck eggs there is a reason behind my signature.
Actually that would be more closely related to this one Which encapsulates the reason I have to move slower than the speed of light That one is the full mass energy equivalence for moving bodies rather than the rest mass equation
Whatever floats your boat. Personally I'd be discovering the many islands and what they have to offer.
Seeing as Filipinos themselves cannot reliably tell Filipinos apart from other South East Asians just by looking at them, that means nothing. Besides, not-all-that-well-clued-up Brits might easily misidentify both a Thai and a Filipino as Chinese anyway.
Huh? Do you know any islands with electricity on them where there isn't videoke? Because I certainly don't.
