So maybe an obvious question but how soon do you apply for a visit visa before booking the flights?

I imagine bring ‘granted’ the visa doesn’t prevent her being questioned upon arrival to the UK so I’ll be sure she knows all the details way in advance.

Applying and being granted a visit visa is something of a lottery as many get refused as get granted, you can only fill in the form to the best of your/her ability with the facts as they stand, If you could manage to do a visit to somewhere together such as HK, South Korea, Malaysia, or Singapore that would probably help her case, Good luck on your road ahead.

Book flights after you get the visa. No guarantee of getting a visa.

Wife and one of two step children managed to get marriage visit visa UK and managed to get visit visa for second step child after we sorted his passport. Only real tie in that case was the rented house. For those we did a visa pack similar in evidence as a spouse visa so it is possible to get visit visa’s just need to make sure have good evidence.

Dealing with kids and settlement visas can be sorted when have better feel for where relationship is going. Want as little evidence as possible in terms of the fathers influence in kids life and don’t want any evidence of father or fathers family looking after them and as much evidence that he has no input to their lives

He has messaged you a few times...???

I've been here over ten years now and I have to admit, nothing much surprises me anymore.

Anyway, if the ex is still wanting to "force" a relationship on your intended you should take care because as @bigmac says people here do have guns... and even if they don't they can easily buy someone who does... and even if you don't think he's the type to do this or that... once he gets drinking with his pals and they start asking him what's he going to do about the "kano" messing with his "wife and kids"... anything can happen.

IMHO, best thing would be to make sure you keep your meetings a long way away from where your intended lives and where the ex is... stick to the big towns like Cebu or Manila... and try and get them all over to the UK ... nice and cool there this time of year :D

Figuratively speaking... and surprisingly, given they're 98% Catholic, quite a lot of couples aren't actually married - cannot afford the expense.

Think there are cheap options to get married but depends on what your priorities are. Cynic in me says they can't afford the party.

What really annoys me is the number of people without birth certificates which is another problem if want to get married as if no birth certificate then not possible to get married. Get the impression that is improving but still understand that there is a lot of late registrations as only done at point where it is a problem and can't be ignored.

Really should have birth registration as a free service to encourage everyone to point of being registered. Not sure if the phil id rollout is sorting that problem.

Anyone know what is happening for overseas filipinos with regards to phil id ?

I had signed up to a site that caters to dating in this region, not just Philippines, I had said I wasn't looking to date but was looking for guides to show me around as I had initially planned a work trip but was told about a 'sudden' redundancy three days after booking the non-refundable flight.
The site regulars have a habit of matching you with people you regularly speak to, so many people thought me and someone else were a thing even though we were just friends (neither of us actually looking for a relationship), my lady randomly messaged me as I kept viewing her profile and asked about my relationship status with said person, I explained it, and she then asked permission to flirt with me which I found absolutely hilarious and we just hit it off from there.

My plans then changed over the following months to meeting her at the airport and spending my two weeks with her as my tour guide, I told her I wasn't interested in doing internet dating as I have to at least meet the person to know for sure and in person she was even better than I thought, very kind, genuine, caring, and quite frugal, she actually saved me a lot of money whilst I was there by advising me on cheaper places, taxi fares etc. Couldn't fault her.

She's not married, I have seen the proof of this and that he was/still is married when they met, she was his mistress basically.
