It’s a school day in our house today and the kids in my little ones class have to make a statue and give some reasoning for it. I think a tough ask for 6 and 7 year olds. I have been racking my brains as to who exactly my child might choose and why and Greta Thunberg it is. For three reasons. Firstly she is female, secondly as she is or was a child and thirdly listening to her speech at COP 24 I cannot fault it. It sums it all up. I am not convinced that she isn’t stage managed and not convinced about the “how dare you” line but the underlying message is perfectly good. And along with that, the Oposa doctrine is one message I want to give to my daughter once she is old enough to grasp it. Either Greta Thunberg or the Fearless Girl statue..
Excellent John. That post really resonated with me as I am doing my best to promote confidence to my kids during their upbringing in their pre-ten formative years.
This is too good to pass up! Greta Thunberg urged the Chinese to stop using their traditional sticks to eat with while saving hundreds of trees. The Chinese advised Greta Thunberg to return to school, where she learns that the sticks are made of bamboo, and that bamboo is a plant, not a tree. The Chinese also called her to tell her to stop wiping her butt with toilet paper because it's actually made of trees!
Sorry not true, fake news. Did Teen Activist Greta Thunberg Tell China to Stop Using Chopsticks? | Snopes.com There are many many fact checking sites over and above Snopes that will tell you this is a false allegation.
I KNEW you would be all over this like syrup on pancakes, I actually wondered where your comment was when I saw it, it is funny though, and I wouldn't have put it past Greta
As the news is was not meant as news fake or not and to be frank I couldn't care less wether it is fake or not I found it amusing and so to others Given what's going on in the world today we could all do with a bit of humour to cheer us up if there is no humour here we need to move along the bus.
Well you'll note that post #26 was my first post on this more than 2 year old thread all I have done is pointed out an untruth, you're all entitled to find fake news funny but these kind of things are made up on Twitter and Facebook by people pushing an agenda and a lot of people on those platforms won't know it's fake and will repeat it ad-nauseum until in their mind and the minds of others it will become an unchallengeable fact which they use back up more lies, it's designed to spread which is why it does spread. I'm just pointing out that it never happened.
No it's not wrong. My point is that in two years I hadn't felt the need to comment on this thread even though I completely disagree with the condescending and patronising view that she has somehow been a puppet, I only commented John because up till now everyone was just expressing opinions albeit ones I disagree with, but the story you posted is a meme that has been going round the web for a couple of years and it's a falsehood, you find it funny as do others I don't, I see these kind of memes as extremely subversive and dangerous, the normalisation of the right to a fake reality is going to be the end of us all, it's already destroyed sane rational politics over the last 20 odd years. Take the anti-vax movement that gained traction from the outright lies and fraud of Andrew Wakefield - Wikipedia regards the MMR vaccine back in 1998 and his other earlier unsubstantiated claims about Crohn's, all freaking bullsh*t but now we have old diseases that we had beaten making a comeback, this stuff these memes are not harmless fun they have real world impact.
