Hi welcome here. My son would drive me back to the UK but if you read further you will see my friend is coming over on a tourist visa and we will take it from there, slow but sure.

So the passport application has gone in and we are working our way through the tourist application visa. I note that we have to provide a flight reservation to Germany and return but understand not all tourist visas are granted. Can anyone tell me how I can make a reservation and if the visa is unsuccessful how I can get my money back as I dont want to end up paying for a flight she might not make. Many thanks

Turkish Airlines will let you make a complete, printable reservation without paying up front. Plenty of flights to Germany too.
