Generally kids, spouses and Brits have better rights once in UK. Not impossible to get rid of them and UK gov has tried in the past but think if press starts to get wind of it gets more difficult.

Supreme court judgement in the past has ruled that the old limit of 18600 was legal as an aim to reduce immigration.

British spouse leaving to join foreign spouse overseas still counts as a win for the current government as the talk about net migration so brits leaving helps their arguement.

Election is due next year so worth writing to your MP to complain. The more complaints they get the more they may have a rethink as next time every vote will count if you are a Tory MP. Opposition parties should be pushing the anti brit and anti family policies represented by family visa issues for foreign spouses of british citizens. Im putting off doing a letter to my MP until get results of wife's citizenship application. Not sure where they are on that - neither of referees has heard anything although something else

My MP is a Tory yes man and was looking fairly safe. Not so sure anymore. I'll be voting for the party most likely to eject him.

For a government in desparation fees are least of their worries. That said they did stake their reputation on using immigration fees increases on paying for doctors so obviously not worked out that they have potential funding gap coming up.

    so--to sum up
the gov wants to reduce the net immigration numbers.

By a huge hike in the minimum income requirement--it makes it impossible for the lowest paid to bring their partners here to settle. So perhaps a few hundred a year--maybe.

Will this offset the numbers of illegals being welcomed with open hotel doors ? Oh--i forgot--these are going to be sent to Rwanda. At what cost ?

It is certainly a bit of a kick in the teeth. My wife and I currently living in UAE, we're not in a rush to go to UK anyway but the increasing requirements are making us rethink things a bit. Having been working abroad now for almost 8 years the UK isn't even that appealing anymore. Plus the new increase in application fees make me wonder if other British Expats will even be willing to pay the fees. I am confident we will meet the requirements, either under category A or D but it won't be easy I'm sure.
@PhilPensioner Hey my wife is also from Pangasinan, near Dagupan.

    Hi
apparently that’s what the Poles did with Ukrainians who went home for a holiday, they refused to let them back into Poland.

Same beach today... (they've upgraded the beachside path, and barred vehicles from using it).

On my way home from submitting my 13A Annual Report at BI in Dagupan :
