Interesting how they don't care when it is in the north west or north east, but as soon as a bit of fracking takes place in the Shires the little Englanders start screaming foul..

:D Yes, I think there are potentially a lot of twists and turns in this yet to come.

Its OK but not in my back yard is going to play a big part in it all.

UK Shale Gas Industry Could Support 74,000 Jobs

"A new report from UK employers' organization The Institute of Directors (IoD) argues that shale gas development in the UK could create tens of thousands of jobs, reduce imports, generate significant tax revenue and support British manufacturing.

Released Wednesday, the IoD's report, titled "Getting Shale Gas Working", makes a series of claims that support the view that shale gas will not only provide economic benefits but will also be environmentally beneficial.

Among the economic benefits, the IoD report claims that:

Investment in shale gas could peak at $5.6 billion (GBP 3.7 billion) a year and support 74,000 jobs
Shale gas jobs would be created in the parts of the UK that need them most, e.g. the North West.
A shale gas industry could support jobs in the UK's chemical industry and wider manufacturing.
Shale gas production could generate significant tax revenue
