In the early hours of sunday morning my wife had some very bad news from home.

Her elderly parents were attacked in their own house. Their next door neighbours son ( in his 40's ) went berserk, entered their house and set about them with a machete. Her father is alive..but critically ill in intensive care. Her mother is ok--head and arm wounds..but was able to talk on facebook. A brother was injured--and another relative had a broken arm. There were children in the house--also my wifes daughter was staying there for a visit. She was able to barricade herself and the children in a bedroom.

Last night the mother of the attacker spoke to my wife on the internet...the reason was to say they couldnt afford to pay the hospital bills !! I somehow figured out who will be footing the bill for that mess.

ive read on here that life is more fun in the philippines: ..but there is no risk of me finding that out.

Sorry for that, terrible news for your lady, hope the idiot is safely incarcerated, probably alcohol led to the attack, its actually not more fun in the Philippines, its violent and chaotic in the city's, life is super cheap, its one of the reasons most would like to escape, the violence, corruption, and poverty.

What's happened to the attacker bigmac? The good news is that once arrested he will languish in a pinoy overcrowded nick for a few years till his case is heard.

Crazy, I thought they would have locked him up and thrown away the key, armed trespass, breaking and entering, attempted murder, GBH......

    Sorry for that.
    Words fail me.
To add insult to injury, that family doesn't even help with hospital expenses?
And the culprit has been released already from custody?

I sincerely hope they all make a good recovery.

    Really shocking set of events.
Hope all recover and the culprit gets what is due to him.

Terrible that the assailant's family get away without footing the medical bills, I was at a party here a few nights ago, every single person bar me had filipino roots, they all said their lives here are far better than there and none would move back. Was it alcohol that induced the attack or mental health issues do you know?

long term depression. Apparently his wife--working overseas..had met someone else. I cant imagine an existence where many men do sod all to earn a living and spend their days scrounging off others. Yet its too close to home !

My wife has told me of cases where a car driver has knocked down a pedestrian--then driven back over the victim to finish them off rather than be liable for medical bills.

where life is cheap eh ?

more likely he had previously gone round to tap them up for a " loan" ( hand out )...and got refused. Such a refusal would no doubt cause grave offence to such a sensitive soul..

Loss of face,a local guy back in the UK had a dive business in the Philippines, reprimanded a drunk employee and was shot dead.

Apparently, many people do that over there, so they pay as little as Php20,000 if the family are poor. :( One of my nephew got killed by 4 men and they only paid his father Php50,000 as blood money. And the hearing took years and years and they didn’t even get convicted. My Dad who works with Ombudsman just died that time, so they know no one can get them done for killing my nephew.

For me? Life isn’t really fun in the Philippines. My life may be boring here as not so many activities like I used to have back home but I think my life is peaceful here. :like:

From a western point of view it looks idyllic, paradise beaches, sultry sunsets, exotic and mystical but, for the average filipino its not more fun in the PI.
