    Hi everyone...

Would like to know your own personal experiences of the TB screening process at the IOM health centre in Manila.

My wife will go there for her TB screening, and my stepson (8 years old) for his interview, as is required for their UK visa application.

They are traveling from Palawan, and i would like to make it as a day trip rather than overnight, and as seamless as possible for them. I'd like to know:

How long does the screening process take?

Can they get the results the same day?

What do they ask the children in interviews, and if they feel he also must be scanned, will it be done that same day?

Would my wifes NBI clearance be accepted for id? My wife's passport is currently not available.

any advice on the process would be greatly appreciated

My good lady recently had the test done at the IOM centre in Manila, she was there 3 hours max and she got the results and certificate the same day. The centre is open Monday to Friday only.

They did ask her to take her passport plus one government ID which was her tax ID. The fee is P3200 for 11 years olds and above, P500 for 0 to 10 year olds.

I would give them a call if I was you regarding the ID required etc just to make sure. Hope this helps :)

Given that TB is not at all uncommon here and the fact that many parents do not get their offspring immunized, I suggest that this is a wise precaution and one that many other countries also require. Indeed so does the Philippines: if you apply for a 13(a) Visa at any Embassy, one of the requirements is a newly-obtained chest X-Ray and you would have to bring that film with you.

i agree...but it just seems ridiculous to have one approved center in all of the Philippines. Another trip to Manila..more expense, more hassle..Of course it'll all be worth it in the end, but they don't make things easy for us :frust:

You're right, the road to a successful visa application is certainly long and winding, but like you said, "it will be worth it in the end" :).

I'm very surprised that there is only one approved centre for the TB test, maybe one of the chaps here will clarify.

Actually guys when i went to get a brief visit to the UKBA site, there were countries they strictly require the TB test, and Philis. is not on the list. But based on some inquiries i had in the past months, from the different agencies, they mentioned that there is a need , and based also from your experiences which i came to know now, there is "a need" have one.And re the accredited hospital, i remember there was one in Cebu..i need to have a double check about it.But my question is, do i need to have chest xray, prior to my visa application or i will wait for their instruction? I need to get your ideas on this aspect.Thank you so much.

As others here, my wife didn't need to do this back in 2009.

Its yet another hoop to jump through, I feel the process will just get harder and harder as time goes on just as the cost will go higher and higher.

I think STD tests will be next on the agenda for the UKBA as they do for Middle East visas.

I think Filipinos should be exempt from the English test, I've never met anyone there who cant speak reasonable English.

oh God, thats what i had in mind too..but taking the English test via IELTS is tough especially if you are very conversant, it covers Speaking, listening, writing and reading. For me the reading test was the hardest as it was about 3000 word texts and time constrained..looking for the answer in it is time consuming. My fiance said , he is blessed that i do speak English well, but he was thinking about those who really cant or hardly can.I wonder how would it be for them :(
