My resident anti-virus (AVG) deletes browser tracking cookies during a scan and deletes them on-the-fly each every time I start Yahoo Messenger.

I'm pretty sure Sean does not specifically add adverts to the site, he's not interested in making money out of it that way as far as I know.

I've never bothered to look into it in detail, but it is likely that the crawlers know the general jist of the content of this thread and the address and details of the site, me personally I don't block the ads in any way so I probably have plenty of tracking cookies, but for others the server can decide what ads to serve based on the content of the site.

I'll have a look around later to see exactly how it works.

I do recall that the Skyscanner advert has been specifically added to the site.

The crawlers would not, presumably, give any idea how many people visit a certain thread, but referrals from search engine terms would be easy to count.

I would love to know how it all works, if only to avoid the privacy issues. I believe privacy and security go hand-in-hand.

I did wonder if there was any referral info in the URL and, if there was, whether it would generate income?

websites will put small keyword 'tracking' files on your computer about your activities - then when you go to another site it will trawl the files - if they find a match that suits them it will place a relevant ad. anti spyware such as SUPERAntiSpyware and AVG will show them up, alllow you to delete them. Then check back any website you go to regularly and note the difference.

This site uses VBulletin software and it will be in the T&C to allow tracking, how they make their money.

My earlier post explained that I could still see targetted adverts without the presence of any tracking cookies...

    Another update..

If you use their service, ensure that you add your recipients middle name into the first name column if they have both of their first names and middle names on their ID! My wife has ID with her first name and middle name next to each other and the money shops in Cebu refused to hand over the money as I had listed her name in the field that states "middle name", which some shops do not get!!

Otherwise, they are a good service.. And resolved this problem pretty quickly. And I think the problem is at the Filipino end...

I've used them a few times now for home delivery and pick-up, Ana hated the home delivery because they always turned up late at night probably whenever the local Cebuana or other pawn was closing, so I only send it for pick-up, then she complained about that because the girl in Cebuana was asking what country did it come from and there was some local tattooed hardman listening in on what she was saying and made her nervous.

Really I give up, I can't do anything to make her happy. if I send to her bank she does not want to collect late at night but that is when it clears and she does not want to wait till morning, if I send to Western Union (which I hate) she has to travel to Mabini so she hates that, I try World Remit and she doesn't even have to leave the house and she's angry because they won't come during daytime and the Cebuana shops make her scared, what in god's name am I supposed to do :frust:

Sorry for the rant, going through a bad patch just now.

On anything Philippines related always make sure the middle name is provided the authorities are totally anal about the middle name.

Hi All - just joined as been searching on net for visa "stuff"...

With regards to Worldremit I started using them a few months back as fed up with hidden bank charges and the time it was taking to redirect funds through New York for Philippine transactions (this is a change with Halifax a few months ago).

To date I've had no issues, been using the bank account method to pay them via Faster Payments, only gripe is mailing or calling them to find the transaction and release it as I've been needing instant money the past month.

I spent all last month arranging (and paying!) for wedding and have transferred up to 200,00php on one day with no issue, and picking up from Cebuano, find it easier than transferring funds into my joint Metrobank as have an account with them through my now wife. Obviously know the branch you are getting it from and trust them etc and keep this as preferred pick up location explaining why there are frequent sums passing through - I let Worldremit know as well as they quarantined some payments and called me to confirm I was aware of them.

Other secure options are dedicated FX companies but again you are restricted to up to 3 days.

Very useful information on the site as will be looking to start the spouse visa process soon.

    Welcome to the site Peel888:welcome:

And thanks for the info there, it is always good to get a few opinions on these companies. And good luck with that visa. I know what you are going through, I recently got married in the Philippines and plan on going through the spouse visa route soon..

I just used Worldremit again today for a small transfer, there was a slight delay of about 1 hour this time maybe the bank holiday?

Anyway it worked eventually but certainly not as instant as Western Union then again it's half the price so I'm not complaining.

Hassle them via their email for general enquiry and they will speed it up as seems to be slightly slow on the admin side.

Wedding done btw, after the usual walking into the unknown with all the paperwork (even though you have all info possible) it all went reasonably smoothly from the admin side, just lots of meetings with varies functions within the church, as ever the odd 500 to the right admin staff and a meal got things moving with firmness as well as they happily mess you around at times when you are on a tight timescale.

With regards to western union I can never get their websites to work and don't trust them so happy with remit so far.....put it this way, with pressure of gettting sums of money over there quickly (there was a near doubling of cost in the last week due to "additional" costs appearing from the better half), they didn't falter. Over easter period as well they still worked. Glad to not have to handle that much money over there now its over. Go back to cheap food and cheap days!!!

If anyone needs up to date info on processing marriage stuff let me know as literally just gone through it all relatively easily with church and all (albeit with the wife being pretty efficient as well, for a filipino!!!).

Yeah, I hate the Western Union website with a passion!

I used it twice to send money and both times they refused to send.. I have no idea why, as I had updated all of my details with Experian and had a few credit searches done and the address was confirmed. but they simply refused. First time round I was new at that property, the second time was about 6 months later and I thought they would pass it..

So, what then happened was I had to wait a few days for my own money to get refunded :(

So I am never using their website again!

I don't hate their website I just loath them, opportunistic, gouging thieving robbers, had to use them far more times than I care to remember, ever since Xoom put the boot into everyone except America I've been looking for a half decent transfer service and Worldremit are pretty good.

I just World Remit to send 3,000 Pesos to my Fiancée's friend. It cost £47.13 but the Western Union price would have been £51.93! That is 10% more expensive. The recipient is happy to as the World Remit agent is nearer that the WU agent.

I also used World Remit to top up a mobile phone. That worked out at about 140 Pesos for a 100 Peso load on the Smart network. It means I can keep my Philippines SIM active without asking my fiancée to send a load from her phone.
