It is an acknowledgement of the kneeler's position as a slave and a protest against that slavery, it says I will not stand for people or a country who treat me as property and with contempt.

It is not new it goes back to the 1700s or earlier.

Let's just get real for a minute.

This is where it came from.

Colin Rand Kaepernick revived this symbol in 2016 that is what you are referring to.

    edit:
This symbolism was used by British abolitionists, today it is adopted in a modern context, it is still valid, more so now after hundreds of years of white supremacism, differential life opportunities depending on skin colour.

Basically if you are white you are all equally disadvantaged, if you happen to have a tint of colour your disadvantage is greater than any of the whites.

The sh*t poor dumb over breeding white lassie on benefits is still born into a world where her opportunities are greater than the same girl in the same position who happens to be black.

The other way of putting it is that the black girl has an added handicap, added by the society that sees her as a threat, she will be jailed far more often than the white girl, she will face more barriers in life for no other reason than she produces a lot of melanin in her skin.

Totally real, the modern take a knee stems from police oppression and brutality in the States, several articles online about it.

If it was about slavery those people taking a knee then going online protesting would be a little hypocritical and conveniently forgetting the indentured child labourers some as young as 6 working 10 or 11 hour shifts in the cobalt mines of the DRC for their lithium-ion batteries for the devices they use to protest.
I am wide awake thanks :) I said the modern take a knee movement began in 2016,which it did.

OK, I will, :) that says they have been using their platform as sportsmen to highlight police brutality, no mention of taking a knee till 2016.

Colin Kaepernick revived the symbol in 2016, as I said post #6.

MSM are reporting the gunman was on a terrorist watch list and had been arrested for being in possession of ammunition.
