Yes, she will need the anullment and that may not be a simple business at all!

Once you have got over that hurdle, I think most of us here would recommend that you DO marry in Hong Kong, then apply for a spouse visa.

I say that because (a) the visa process is simpler and cheaper and (b) your mahal's family can travel to HK for your wedding without needing visas.

The information you will need is here:

i wonder if she could file for divorce in HK--? after all--my g/f got a divorce here in the UK when she was here on a student visa ? ( mine is waiting for annulment back in the filis though )

It would be worth enquiring. If the answer is "yes", and you do not intend to live in the Philippines, then that will be the quickest and simplest method.

i have a vague idea that the filipina visa applicant will still need proof from the filis that she was legally free to marry---even if the marriage takes place in another country. this is to satisfy UKVI. but i hope i got that wrong.

I think that the HK Registry Office will seek that proof but they accept a UK Divorce Certificate so presumably the accept an HK one.
Anullments are possible - my sister in law got one - but her case was unusual in that she had married her rapist to ensure that her child was not born illegitimate.
