**** it, I'm not going to be able to afford any of that :(

Methinks the other direction is starting to become much more appealing :(

You always could become Irish, or European of some sort, and then it would all be free of charge.......

It sounds, and it is, unfair to the Brit at large, but that's the way the cookie crumbles....

Or move to Spain permanently and use the EEA route to Family Re-unification for free from there.
But if your Mrs needs to come to the UK, charges will apply.

Well I have significant Irish blood already Dom ;) grandfather Patrick was a fine shoemaker known in my home town as the dandy shoemaker :)

However given the mess Ireland is in I probably don't want to go that direction and Spain will probably be in the same mess very soon :(

I have to earn and just now I don't have the option of earning abroad in my line of work, ah well that's life.

To be perfectly honest, I was being facetious by mentioning turning Irish for the purpose of a EEU Family permit...

But, you have to see for yourself, that you have the pre-requisites for applying for dual nationality, and for it to be granted without question...
Why denying yourself of an inalienable right of birth, is well beyond me, but you must weigh the pro and cons, carefully and fairly.

It will be the case of a maybe hit and miss matter which can prove itself to be extremely expensive, and a legal way which is a right and not a privilege, and thanks to your ancestors it will be like a sort of inheritance, at no cost whatsoever apart from flights.
If you have the opportunity to do it, I cannot understand the reluctance.

But the ball is in your court, of course.
Whichever way you decide on, it will be respected, and well wished upon.

OSS you would not need to live in Ireland and most likely never need to visit there to claim your passport if your entitled. Plenty of people have chosen that route although as Dom writes there maybe factors you need to consider before pursuing that option.

There is the possibilty of course that the UK or Ireland may for some reason leave the EEA unlikely but troubled times are ahead as you mention.

it's under settlement, fiance(e)/proposed civil partner of a settled person... this is the site that you should follow in terms of amount to pay because this is where you'll submit your application...
