Hi guys, I get DLA plus 19+ grand a year. (would that sustain?) We cant really wait for a british passport for my child, and my wife and I is wondering if we can use a fillipino passport for our child to travel. If so how do we get around this to do it that way? Is it ok not to get a british passport?
Are you looking for a spouse visa? The child would also need a visa, plus also need to pay NHS surcharge and, on top of that, your financial requirement would rise to (I think) 22,400.
yes for the spouse visa (I am also aware of the new surcharge for NHS), I am exempt from the financial requirement because I am in receipt of DLA . What I am wondering about is if it is possible to get a visa for my child, cos I want her to travel on a fillipino passport
You need to register your child with the British embassy in Manila to get a consular birth registration, after that is possible to apply for a British passport for your child as the child is automatically British (since a rule change in 2006) however the process is not easy as it has to be done from the Philippines. It might be possible to travel on a Filipino passport with a consular birth registration without a visa, I have thought about that in the past. A Filipino passport with a visit visa for the child would work, it should allow a six month visit and once the child is here you could try to apply for a British passport on the basis of the consular birth registration, I hope to renew my daughters British passport that way as it expired a year ago.
