An international tribunal has ruled against Chinese claims to rights in South China Sea, backing a case brought by the Philippines. Good to see that this issue is on its way to being resolved, peacefully http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-36771749
Lets hope so, the Americans seem to have been lending a hand by having one of their aircraft carriers in the area, I suspect this is all about the possibility of oil being found in the area, disputes like this normally come down to pounds and pence.
The ruling means nothing unless China accepts it, which it doesn't. It doesn't even accept the existence of the tribunal! Although the UNCLOS ruling is binding on the parties, the tribunal can not enforce it and any country (eg America) that tries... well, good luck with that. Unfortunately this was always going to be a battle that China would win.
I suppose its a start, funny with all bad press China gets especially on human rights and with a lot of countries always condemning them, we all still want to do business with them. Its all about money, always helps with turning that blind eye
http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-southchinasea-ruling-idUKKCN0ZS02P An arbitration court ruled on Tuesday that China has no historic title over the waters of the South China Sea and that it has breached the sovereign rights of the Philippines with its actions there, infuriating a defiant Beijing. China, which has boycotted the hearings at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, vowed again to ignore the ruling and said its armed forces would defend its sovereignty and maritime interests. China's state-run Xinhua news agency said shortly before the ruling was announced that a Chinese civilian aircraft successfully carried out calibration tests on two new airports in the disputed Spratly Islands.
From what I've seen on the news today the verdict at the Hague has really p##sed the Chinese off good and proper.
we are being bullied by richer country, it's sad that even after we won the case, we don't have strong military to enforce it.
Well, that's what happens when the wise Senators in the Phils government vote to throw their American FRIENDS off their military bases, back in 1991 (when I was living there). Let's hope this can be settled peacefully and Duterte doesn't start shouting his mouth off again about charging in on his jet ski.
China is now saying they have the right to set up a air defence zone now in the disputed South China Sea. Cheeky beggars aren't they http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-36781138
I thought the article below was quite funny regarding the South China Sea dispute; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-36927674
Why do the British press censor / pixelate things such as the passport image, seems rather pathetic. I am surprised that the Vietnamese immigration officials would write such an offensive message, possibly the Chinese trying to create "an incident".
The BBC are so far up their own Rs now, I can hardly bring myself to watch or listen to the pc rubbish they spew.
That's what amused me, and yes I am surprised too immigration put F--- Y-- in the passport, makes you wonder what you could do with the passport, scribble it out of something?
