Just realised I have spent a good few hours updating my Facebook timeline with info about where I was born, when my parents passed away, where I travelled to and so on...

This is going live in the next few weeks and right now is in the development stage, so only Facebook developers get to use it right now. But I have found that you really need to be careful with this as Facebook automatically opts to place items on your timeline available to the public. So make sure when you get to update yours, that you go through the public settings and remove from public view anything not worthy for public consumption, such as personal details and events...

Below is a video from Facebook showcasing how this will look..

So what do you guys think?

Simply won't use Facebook or other broadly targeted social media for these very reasons.

Facebook has improved now, thanks in part to Google+ as well as privacy concerns hitting the web and blogs in such a negative way. They just can't afford to upset their users and go the way of Myspace and Friendster.

One of the reasons I am pretty much big on this Timeline now is because when I think how I lost my father at such a young age (I was 5) and never got to know him, if only there was a Facebook in his day. Now, should I have kids in a few years and pass away some years later. They will have access to my life story, pictures, videos and so on. As mortal as we all are, the internet will keep some of what we were alive for our loved ones to remember us by.

However, in the here and now, privacy is an obvious concern. Though I am careful with that.. And I think Jim, you would be as well if you got on there.
