You have to try to find a good vantage point, then try not to be knocked by the crowd.
You need to get into the road at times with a quick press on the shutter.
It wasn't easy with a new camera back in 2008.

I have an online friend from long ago who is one of my favourite photographers and he's Filipino, he's a Filipino chemist who travels the world for his employer but he's also a really great photographer.

He captures Sinulog in motion this is just one year but he's got records from many years, sadly he stopped posting on Flickr a long time ago but I still look at his work from time to time.

I have lots and lots from 2008 too, Jim, but with hindsight everything was so rushed and difficult.

There are times when I struggle to get the best shots just because so much is going on.

I find I don't try as hard now and I do get fewer good results these days in spite of having great equipment.

And one of my cameras the Canon M5 I really don't get the best out of these days because the UI is more complicated than it needs to be even though it is a lovely small mirrorless camera.

It's an event that I would like to see and would love to photograph!

I think the ease of phones changed everything but I still persevere with the 7D, Jim.
I have been looking at the EOS R8 recently as I have never had a FF camera and have not used a swivelling screen also.
I have limited use for video.
I hav a few EF lenses but the EF to R adapter is hard to find at the moment.
There is a Canon sale on until 8 August so it is tempting me and Gregg is using the 7D quite a bit too these days. He likes the Sigma 70-200 with the 7D but it is heavy! He is young.
Photos on the Canon 85mm 1.8 are so creamy and special when doing portraits and not so heavy also :)

I have the 85mm 1.8 as well it's a fantastic lens for the money using it on a full frame camera would make a world of difference for you.

But I don't think I would change body to a new lens mount, if I were you I would look at getting a good old 5D classic the first version full frame, I just bought one for £150 last year in mint condition relatively low shutter count too.

All that you get from the new mirrorless bodies is more light sensitivity and the ability to shoot in very poor light you won't get the best out of one without the RF series lenses but they are truly expensive and not that much better than the existing EF lenses, at our age the extra you get from the R and RF series is minimal in terms of the actual photographs they produce as the pictures really come from the person taking them and not from the technology

I agree about phones, my OnePlus phones have made my smaller cameras like the Ixus range redundant I really don't use them anymore as the phone is better.

My OnePlus 7 Pro is in my view the better camera compared to my OnePlus 10 Pro.

Not sharp but just a snapshot lack of sharpness is my fault.

That's a pretty good one Mike, one thing the batteries will all be f****d, they are BP511 but you can get good third party ones on Amazon you won't get good original canon BP511s and they don't make them any more.

These are good batteries but you have to use their supplied charger which is not so great, Canon batteries are coded the charger won't allow non coded batteries to charge which is why you need to use the supplied charger with these batteries but these last more than 500 shots each per full charge, they are good I bought 4 of them.

Cropping seems to be the best way of not showing all the heads of the crowd in front of you.

I just realised that these Sinulog photos are "snaps" because I was using a tiny Fujifim FinePix point and shoot camera way back in 2008, Jim  The penny dropped when I thought about meeting my wife and what camera did I own when I met her in 2008.

This is what photographers are sometimes up against in Sinulog, Jim:
