Can someone there clarify, because I'm still slightly confused by this! Do we need an A1 or a B1 on the English exam when applying for FLR for the second time. I'm not sure if this comes under spouse visa or settlement visa. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...sh_language_tests_-_updated_November_2014.pdf Neither is really a problem, but I'd like to know as I'm debating with myself which exam to recommend for t'wife as shee needs to do another test due to those TOEIC cheats!
i had the impression that for 'further' leave to remain a minimum A1 grade is necessary. When choosing to gain 'indefinite' leave to remain (settlement) then B1 is required. A test result is valid for all applications. If obtain B1, then there is no requirement to take further tests.
Yep Different requirements listed on application forms FLR(M) - Further Leave to Remain https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...-extend-stay-in-the-uk-as-a-partner-form-flrm SET(M) - Settlement https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-to-settle-in-the-uk-form-setm
Its quite annoying this English Test business, why do they want the loved ones to take yet another English Test for the 2nd FLR, its understandable and I agree that they should have an initial test before coming to the UK but no more after that should be required. The wife just submitted the one from her initial Fiancée visa for the FLR but like you we will have to get another one done for the second, then no doubt another for the ILR, its all silly in my opinion.
There is no requirement to retake tests for next visa, unless the testing organization is no longer approved or the minimum grade required is higher. Due to TOEIC not ensuring that their approved centers were not corrupt. they were removed from approved examination organization list

The UKVI should accept all TOEIC English Tests, how the hell was anyone to know it was going to be taken off the official list, regardless of what happened, seems so unfair.
Just take a look at a thread from one year ago here at BF, the thread is about English Tests and it highlights to me just how confusing the visa process can be, @Maharg was involved in this thread too along with the much revered Mr Macawber who unfortunately doesn't make an appearance here anymore. http://www.british-filipino.com/index.php?threads/spouse-visa-extension.8156/ Interesting read.
I think past TOEIC exams results would have still been valid, but annoyingly TOEIC withdrew the test entirely for the UK, so 32B d) came into play.... http://www.british-filipino.com/index.php?threads/that-there-english-test.9836/#post-66412 TOEIC Statement https://www.ets.org/toeic/important_update/update_toeic_uk Even an adviser site was uncertain in July 2014 http://1st4immigration-visas.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/popular-english-language-tests-toeic.html
Someone posted on here that his wife had her visa approval delayed as she needed to retake a test because she had a TOEIC, which pretty much confirmed previous passes as worthless.
Typical UK Visa and Immigration service, playing on peoples nerves, 'delayed' hoping that applicants remove the problem by retaking a test with another organization. Instead of making a definite decision regarding pass exam results.... 32B a) 'reasonable doubt', caused by immigration service own indecision on the matter ......
To let you know, Graham, my wife retook her English test ( Speaking and Listening ) as her TOEIC test became invalid. She took it a month ago and such is the nature of island life here, the result finally came through today. She passed well enough to be eligible for her application for British Citizenship, which she will submit in the new year. They seemed to focus on correct use of the tenses, from what she said, which she finds difficult, but nonetheless she did well enough to pass. Some of you may recall that we were told in a face to face inquiry with the Immigration officer here that she had to retake the test owing to the TOEIC fiasco.
Which test did she take, John? We will probably do the Cambridge PET. It's a shame about TOEIC. It seems the nicest one to take in the way it is done.
ESOL, Cambridge. Speaking and Listening. They paired her up with another Filipina. Part of the test was to converse with one another. So they talked about shopping, mostly.
