Someone of my age speaking sense. The more Noel ages, the more he talks sense.

I often hear how things were bad under Thatcher, but I agree with Noel, back in the mid-80's when I left school, I was prepared to work anywhere to earn money, and he's got it right when he says kids these days want instant gratification when it comes to employment. Where I work, a small store of 35 staff, we have 3 Poles, but the rest are either middle-aged and above or students studying at the local uni. We have maybe a couple of young locals as well, who seem happy working as they are, and will probably be there in 5 years time. Over Christmas, we took on temp staff, 3 of whom dropped out after a few days, and 2 were sacked for being utterly useless - didn't bother turning up for work or phoned in sick too many times. It's getting very hard to find decent, hard working people to work in retail, and this seems to be happening to most supermarkets. Speaking from experience, standards in retail have fallen sharply in 20 years - back in 1986, now its all about quantity rather than quality, no wonder people are fed up with the likes of Tesco.

    Aye...........

And I got made redundant from a couple of Hotels because I trained the catering college kids too good, and thought they could use them at leaisure......... Not realizing that youngsters don't want to work at week-ends, and if the girlfriend calls, they drop what they are doing and disappear.......
I did get asked to go back, but they are still trying to remove the jobs surgically, from where I told them to stick them....

The youth nowadays is too spoiled, thanks to the Playstations, Xboxes, Nintendo, this that and the other, a wasted generation.
We cannot wholly condemn the Poles for coming over and doing the jobs that nobody wants, or think they are beneath them, what we should voice our concerns to is the fact that for the past 20/30 years there have been hardly any apprenticeships going, whereas years ago, an apprenticeship was a way to get your foot under the table by starting to learn a trade and at the end of it being offered a position or not, depending how thick one was...
And a job was sort of for life, with whole generations working for the same firms.
