This is an excellent article in Yahoo News... a salutary reminder of just how much is wrong... Yahoo is very widely used and seen in Philippines net cafes... http://ph.news.yahoo.com/8-scandals-far-worse-chito-miranda-104528051.html
Yahoo is not the most widely used website in the Philippines. Its Facebook probably followed by Twitter or Youtube You seem to spend the vast majority of the time criticizing things in the Philippines. There are many positives and they far outweigh the negatives in my opinion.
Thank you. It's interesting "to see ourselves as others see us" - I had no idea I was coming across as negative - certainly not my intention. I just assume anyone can see the positives.
Thank you for the reply. The vast majority of posts i have read tend to concentrate on the negative aspects of living in the Philippines. More positive would be nice and perhaps make the site more interesting.
I think you have a very good point. I have been tending to assume that most people coming to this site already know and love the Philippines, so detailed information on legal and political issues will interest them - and if nothing else allow them to keep up a conversation with Filipino friends. Can I ask you to look over my articles on Euro Pinoy, eg the "arrival at Manila Airport" one and tell me if that also gives a negative impression because that is aimed at first timers?
Thanks for the input Alfie. I think personally, most expats tend to find the negatives about the Philippines simply because in some respects they miss home. Likewise, my late mother used to hold the idea that Ireland had a far better standard of living than the UK, she missed it all her life after moving from Ireland aged 20. But by all means counter everything you disagree with!
Point well spotted.... Although sometime the negatives may help more than positives as expectations would be dampened a bit, and if something doesn't really work out, one won't be feeling too disappointed... if it makes sense...
Have looked over your article and its was fair assessment and well written. Terminal one reminds me of my late Uncles living room in the 70's. He was a heavy smoker At the end of the day looks are not important to me as long as i get from A to B.
Makes sense. Did we have the same english teacher at school Plenty of positives, just most expats spend there time moaning about things here.
I tend to prefer to hear all views in the sense that its necesary to be aware of the negatives and the positives. Getting the balance right is the trick.
Nice description! Thanks very much. (If you have time could you look at my others as well?) T1 does have something few terminals have - a children's play room with lots of Lego, on the departures floor. Its currently re-located from where it was to the inside of the building (i.e. on the right!)
I've never understood men who go to great lengths to live in the Philippines and then spend their time propping up a bar and talking to the same half dozen men about how much better the country could be run. If they tried it for a day they'd soon realise it ain't so easy.
