QUEZON CITY - As announced earlier today by the National Telecommunications Commission, Telstra may not provide any type of internet connection in the Philippines.

NTC spokesperson Romulo Nuevo told the media at the 5 PM press conference, "the whole commission and its associates believe that the expansion of Telstra as an internet service provider in the Philippines is detrimental to the country's best interests."

"We must preserve the continuity of what's going on right now with PLDT and Globe as the two leaders in fast and reliable internet connection. Having a third party from a foreign country will have serious ramifications with how the pricing, inclusive or not of taxes, is done," he added.
