Got my annual renewal for my car insurance. Price has gone up (still it was only £270 for myself and Elsa with all the bits added on; legal cover, windscreen, car hire, £250 voluntary excess etc), but on GoCompare, cheapest price was only £172 for a policy like for like. I have 9 years no claims, and have been with Swiftcover for 6 of those years. This is how they treat their loyal customers by jacking up the price. Sucks.

    "Suck it up" Mate.

It IS the modern way in UK.

I have been with my bank for 36 years and previous to a while in NZ for 3 years.

I asked the local manager if my "length of service" counted for anything :) ?
He said they do not even show it on my account details.! ;)

Whenever my insurance is up for renewal, I just get ma re-quote on MoneySupermarket.com and may end up staying with the same insurance company because a new policy is cheaper than renewing the old one!

I was with Swiftcover for a couple of years, I have way more than 10 years no claims but I think the actual number they work on is about 10 years, first year quote was £280 second year £350, third year quote £546, I drive a 2 litre Honda Accord and I have three points for an SP30 nearly 3 years ago (country road transition to a 30 that I missed).

Last year I switched to Hastings Direct as they were offering me the same cover for 350.

Basically every time one of these companies get successful and get lots of sales, they also get lots of accidents and liabilities, next thing they pass it onto you, the existing customer.

Esure were like that too a few years back.

Same problem the world over I suspect, greed, I got the renewal for my house and contents insurance a couple of months ago and it had risen from A$49 per month to A$86 per month, they didn't even mention that the premium had risen, just that they had upped my coverage in line with the annual inflation rate, probably hoping I wouldn't notice as it is paid for monthly by direct debit, I WAS with that company for 17 or 18 years.....

Get a quote from another company, knock 20 quid of it and phone your exsisting insurance company back to see if they can match it or come close. 9 times out of 10 they'll match it.

I use an outfit called coverbox. A tracker is fitted to your car and you estimate your mileage for the year. Your monthly payment is worked out from this depending on the car type. If you come under the mileage estimate you get a refund, if your over your payment goes up next year to cover it. Plus you have a tracker in your car if it nicked.
