Yep, he needs a visa to stay more than 21 days. The first visa is for up to 59 days (including the 21 days on arrival). Which I'm guessing is all your boyfriend will need. He can either do it in before he goes in person at the Philippines Embassy in Gower Street, London or he can send them a notarised copy of his passport, along with the visa fee (about £22 the last time I got one in August!). In this instance, I think you just need to include a bank statement as well. Just have a look on the Philippines Embassy website here for the details: http://philembassy-uk.org/consular-matters/visa I would say this is the stress free approach. Especially if he is going somewhere other than Manila.

He can do that OR, when he is there, he can just go to the Bureau of Immigration in Intramuros, Manila. Check out any public holidays to make sure you don't turn up on day 20 and there are 2 days holiday! They will charge you an overstaying fee! Or he will have to do it on the first day if he is going on to another location. It'll actually cost more than double in Manila than compared with doing it in the UK (go figure!) about P3,000. So about £46 versus £22 in London. Ask for a form from one of the visa extension windows, fill it in, you will then have go and get a copy of the same form and your passport photo page and data pages, pay the fee and wait one hour for release. They've actually improved of late and the facilities are better than before. There is a Starbucks across the road or you can just have a wander around Intramuros while you wait.

Edit - Just a note on the office in Intramuros, here is the Visa fees page: http://immigration.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=118&Itemid=43 Also be aware of this at the bottom of the page "All applicants for extension are required to dress properly. Applicants wearing shorts, sandos, and slippers will not be allowed entry to Immigration Office."

And they seem to enforce this quite strictly! They wouldn't allow my wife in because she was wearing shorts and slippers! How is that not proper in the heat of Manila?

Better to secure a visa from the Embassy in UK before he leaves UK.
Can be done by post with certified copy of passport page and payment.

    Here's the application form.

If he feels he'll be short on time to apply at the Philippine Embassy in London the another alternative to visiting the immigration office in Manila is to secure one from the immigration office at the airport upon arrival.
If there no-one around go to the immigration booth, say you want a 59 day visa and they take you to an office just back on the left. Takes 15 minutes and costs around P3040k

    Hi Chelle,
There is an immigration office in Mandaue near Cebu City if he wants to get an extension there.
They offer a quick stamp for a fee or a much cheaper one if someone waits a few hours.
    Hmmmmm :erm:

I would have thought a six month's tourist visa in your passport will cover you for the whole duration of your stay without having to leave.
Six months, excellent, Frank .......reminds me of my pre-kids days. Oh how life has changed!

A six month visa issued by the Philippine Embassy means you can enter the Philippines once at any time before the six months' validity has expired. It does NOT give you six months' stay in the country. As a visitor you will have to pay for extensions and the first will be due 30 days from your date of arrival. Thereafter you can obtain extensions every two months.

The 21-day visa-free period was changed to 30 day visa-free some time ago. If he is not staying there more than 30 days he will not need any visa but he will need to show he holds a ticket for return within 30 days and hold a passport which has at least six months validity...

This is an old thread Howerd, Frank resurrected it when he should have started a new thread, the opening poster is unlikely to see this.
