Hello and welcome to the forum, and good luck with your book.

Though to be honest, I am not sure of anyone on here who is an illegal immigrant, we tend to try and help people stay legit and above board - even if it means bypassing certain visas (as with the EEA route for settlement).

That said, we might have regular browsers who are illegal immigrants and of course if they register and PM you, then good luck with that.

I've merged these two threads as they were the same essentially.

    :welcome:

Thank you. This site is good, specially its intention to help.

Anyway, my intention is just to collect experiences, regardless of what statuses.

    Salamat po.

 Slipped my mind, but the OP was hoping to speak with people who are illegal immigrants and we just don't have any here (as far as I know).

I would imagine illegal immigrants really get the worse deal of all, human trafficking is in the news sadly every day, and we're not talking about a cheap waiter or waitress here, they usually end up in some sort of slavery. :(

There's a very significant number of TNT pinoys in UK
    Mostly concentrated in London.

They tend to keep themselves to themselves despite also being gregarious and good mixers in the local communities.
They don't generally divulge their status or share their TNT experiences outside their own known 'group'. For obvious reasons really. There's an awful lot of jealously and crab-mentality amongst many pinoy communities.

I only get to meet with them through my volunteering work.
My best estimate is that only 10%-15% can find a way to remain here and legalise their status.
Another 10%-15% will actually return home voluntarily, where some actually do get to find a way back legally.
The remainder will prefer to stay here illegally.
The word is that the available no-questions asked job market it's getting more competitive and risky.
Many of them live together in bedsits and rooms owned by other Pinoys.

I've not knowingly come across any who are in a 'slave' position or subject to trafficking, but I do have a strong feeling some are in a very bad position.

Almost all of those I have met are overstayers originally arriving here legally. Some have felt the need to leave their British husbands who treated them very badly.

That's very interesting. I know two ladies who could be in that category, but I have never asked them - both are, in a quiet way, an asset to the community that they live in.

Deporting them would be a waste of police time, in my opinion.

Funny you should say that as I think I also am familiar with a similar situation. Presumably where there are british born children involved, even less so?

My impression is that an "illegals" life isn't that noteworthy in terms of material to write a book about?

It's fair to say that the large majority of Filipinas we knew well as acquaintance and as friends during our time in Yokohama were TNT.

Since that time the Japanese Immigration have really tightened-up and clamped down.
Most of those we knew then have actually returned home.

I'd have to agree in general terms.
Their everyday lives aren't so different from any of us.
The 'interest' would be in understanding the events that caused them to overstay and the reasons why they continue to do so.
Sadly, you'll find 'face', finance and fear features most highly

it's not really their stories as being illegals per se but the risks & hardships to earn a living need to be told so families back home will learn to value and appreciate things... and could be an eye opener for those who want to take chances. anyway, proposed story is kinda drama and romance..

There was a very good TV program on this topic a few months ago. I can't recall the title or channel. If you are not in the UK than you might be able to watch it on iPlayer etc.
