When European Immigrants can claim all sorts of benefits without having, first, contributed to the system. But the most upsetting thing is that they are entitled to receive child benefit even if the child is not phisically in the UK........ Before I get accused of picking on any ethnicity, save yourself the trouble. I have gripes with the rules, that's all, but not to the point of ranting about it. Just remarking how wrong it all seems to be. Non EEA spouses (males, females, confused genders) of UK citizens that have paid in all their lives, don't get a bean in help for years, and that needs to be rectified. The "Europe" concept could do with lots of improvements
Dom, is that reciprocal? If I was in France for example would I be be able too avail of child benefit (assuming it's available of course)?
In Portugal you can claim Bono de familiar (C.B.)as long as you are registerd in the social security system. Dom this is nothing to do with Europe its a quirk of the UK
There are some reciprocal agreements in place, where one can have some UK benefits paid abroad, mainly pensions and child benefits, and the local benefits are normally much lower and nigh on impossible to obtain, hence the queues in Calais....
Dom I was refering to this bit that you posted in your opening post "Migration Watch said the UK was one of only five EU countries that did not require children to be resident in the host country in order to receive the payments." Seems to be saying its a matter for the country to decide nothing to do with any european directives
