Well, I just asked the Mrs. She said both young and older. Not sure myself if it just applies to young coconuts.

These were from Thailand. But they tasted the same to me as the ones in the Philippines.

I thought they were the young coconuts because they are sweeter, could be wrong though, often am.

In the meantime, a facinating insight into Philippine coconuts. Gods gift to Filipinos....

BTW. I had buko pie out there. Quite nice with ice cream.

    Interestingly.....
" The Philippines is the world’s second largest producer of coconut products, after Indonesia. About 25 percent of cultivated land is planted to coconut trees, and it is estimated that between 25 percent and 33 percent of the population is partly dependent on coconuts for their livelihood. "

Those figures must be not merely wrong but insanely wrong!

Coconut trees are planted on marginal land which is unsuited to other cultivation; flat land grows rice.

45.7% of the population are urbanised, according to the latest census, so approximately none of them will be involved in coconut cultivation. That leaves 54.3% so for 25% of the population to be dependent on coconut cultivation 50% of all the rural population, including farmers, fishermen, jeepney drivers, schoolteachers, policemen and so on must be involved in coconut cultivation. This seems wildly improbable.

Don't worry about coconuts. Worry about the phone bill.

Food can be an issue. It does depend a lot on the Filipina.

Its good to have the Filipino food about.

My wife is making Lumpiang Shanghai today. First time for her. Should be good.

Between viber, skype and Facebook should be ok for the phone bills.
Are there many Filipino stores around? I'm lucky that Rhed is a chef working at a brasserie so is happy with most foods.
Think some kind of singing/karaoke machine will be needed.

    Thanks for the replies.

Where do you live? Some of the general Asian or Oriental stores sell Filipino food. In some places there are specific Filipino stores owned by Filipinos. We are luck we have 2 Filipino stores within walking distance and one Asian store a short drive away. But we are in the Isle of Man.

Indeed, Viber Skype and Facebook should cover it. That is what my wife uses.

I live in Chesham in bucks. At the end of the tube line so guess there must be some stores not to far way.

So glad for viber it has made contact so easy. Even when her connection is to slow for skype.

Really can't wait for my 30 days back there.

See, there you go, you had nothing to worry about all along, pop down to the Asian supermarket, bag of coconuts and your problem is solved , happy smiley faces all round.

Seriously, Filipinos are extremely adaptable to foreign countries, I have seen them living and working all over the world (especially the Middle East where I met my lady), they take a ray of sunshine wherever they go, beautiful smiles and beautiful people.
