Prime Minister David Cameron has offered to consider more powers for Scotland, in the event of a vote against independence.

Ahead of a referendum expected in 2014, Mr Cameron admitted Scotland could go it alone, but said he believed in the United Kingdom "head, heart and soul".

He said it would be "deeply, deeply sad" if Scotland became independent.

The prime minister also suggested the move would have implications for the UK's EU and Nato membership.

Mr Cameron has since been in talks with Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, who said after the meeting: "Things have moved on quite substantially".

He said the only serious issue of disagreement was over the question used in the referendum and whether there should be a second question on "devo max".

Well if Scotland wanted independence and voted for it, I would not object.

Personally I don't think the Scottish people do want it. But.......................... you never know.

Plenty do want it and that is why this makes news... Though if in a referendum the majority of Scots wanted independence than like many I too would not grumble. Self determination and all that. It is their right!

If they did vote for indipendence, and go their way, the Union Jack without the Cross of St. Andrew would look a bit empty...

I suppose Westminster will lose oil revenue, but it will gain from not having to subsidize Scotland.....;)

Yup, everyone has an inalienable right to self rule.:like:

EU... Euro... Borders within this Island...??:erm:

But what happens if they screw up...???:erm:

    I love Irn Brew :like:

It's a very close second to my No.1 all time favourite Ginger Beer.

I really missed that when I was in Japan and decided to have a go at home made ginger beer. It worked great and everyone loved in, especially when I allowed it to ferment at little longer.....He he.

    Edited upon advice.

Peter very important this "Iron Brew" and "IRN BRU" are not the same thing, one of them is made from Girders and the other is a pale imitation :D

I am sure you meant "Irn Bru" :D

I love Irn Bru as well... Did you know it is very popular with people from Pakistani and Indian descent!

Go to halal fast food outlet and they have it in stock. There is one place called Chicken Cottage that has Irn Bru on tap..

I just bought my 3 bricks of the diet Bru from Makro last night, I've currently got 3x24 can bricks in the office, 2x24 can bricks in the house and 1 brick in the car, about 6 weeks supply, works out at 33p a can including VAT that way, or about 22 peso a can, quite often Makro have it on special offer for 4.90 odd a brick and it's even cheaper that way.

Regards the Indians and Pakistanis loving it I am not surprised, it contains both mango and chilli amongst the 30 odd ingredients that comprise its famous secret blend.

Sometimes when I had spare baggage capacity I took a batch of 500ml Irn Bru in plastic bottles over with me, served ice cold in Manila it was spectacular especially after a night on the San Mig :D

On a serious note, something that has always been in my bones, as I feel my childhood was full of these values, are the values inherent in the Scottish Enlightenment.

The following quote is an extract from this Wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Enlightenment

Never forget England that an awful lot of the 'Great' in 'Great Britain' and our influence on the modern world came from Scottish minds!

That quote misses the greatest of them all, James Clerk Maxwell the greatest genius of the classical era, whose ideas are still the foundation of most modern technology.
