    Hi all
Just wanted to know which bank account to open?
I want to start saving money from now for her visa requirement. I do earn around 25k a year but I can anytime lose my job as I don’t trust them. So I want to save up and I think it’s 16k as far as I remember. And I must have in for 6 months in 1 bank account is it?
I have Bank of Scotland vintage card which gives me interest of 3% for up to 5k and I can open up to 3 vintage accounts.
Will this be ok if I save in 3 vintage accounts all the money? And get interest or does it have to be just 1 account?
    Thank you
    Maven

I really do not think it matters if they are in one or three accounts.

Good idea though, saving up front. Sensible bloke!

    What's the 16k for?

Sixteen thousand pounds is the point at where savings above this can be counted to take care of any shortfall in the income requirement of £18,600.

Its good to save, you never know as you say, doesn't matter which bank are account you put it in at the moment, unless you have millions the interest rates will not be giving you much return on your money.

    Thank you John :)

Timmer so it is 16k right i was not sure.
i will just save it in 3 bank of scotland vintage accounts as i will get 2.4% net interest.
    Thank you :)

You need to have £62500 in savings to be totally reliant on qualifying, if you have no income.

Around £5000 should take care of the initial visa, FLR and air ticket.

Always better to have a few thousand in the bank, the visa applications are stressful enough, better not to have financial stress on top of that.

Remember that the loved one will be able to contribute to the household once she receives her NI number, "every little helps" as Graham's favourite supermarket says :)

I have always found personally that when trying to calculate how much I can save in a set period of time that I can never save as much as I had initially planned, I was only discussing this very point yesterday with the wife.

That figure is the minimum before any savings can be considered in lieu of income.

They will only take savings above 16 grand into account.

Ok I will try to save over 16k. I have plenty time as I’m getting married in Dec and I think she wants to apply in March so I have around 8 months to save. Hopefully I should be fine or I will ask help from family
