Got a new pc with a Ryzen R5 5600G processor - cheap as chips and excellent for desktop - integrated graphics are razor sharp and as fast as butchers dog - very impressed.

All brand new parts, paid less than £200 which included the case, motherboard, psu, processor, 8gb ram memory and 250gb ssd.

That does sound like a good buy.

I have 4 computers (here) in my mancave,,, most of which simply sit there looking sorry for themselves, as of course I only use one at a time.
Trouble is, I get bored and buy 'upgrades' for them off Lazada or Shopee, which I have fun fitting, but never actually use. lol

I was considering a Ryzen version of one of these things below but in the end stuck to Intel, the Intel i5 is fast enough for me now.

This one just arrived today, it's travelling with me next week, I have 3 of these already in the Phils, this one is going upstairs in my bedroom in order to stop my son moving computers around the house all the time.

PC Lenovo ThinkCentre M720Q Micro Tiny i5-8400T 8th Gen 8GB RAM 256GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro.

I'll upgrade the disk to 1TB maybe 2TB and the ram to 32GB.

Cost £149.99 on eBay just over 10,000 PHP equivalent and almost mint. Also smaller than the length of my hand.

The little red dot at the top left of this shot (above my amplifier) is another one of two of these I have in the UK, that one has 2TB of disk and 64GB of RAM.

I've got 4 working laptops in the UK as well but I only really use 2 of them these days.

I like my Lenovo computers :)

I will need to try a Ryzen processor one day though.

I have 2 Lenovo Thinkcentres. ;) Only i3s, running Win 10, but they were a bargain, and I've upgraded to 8 gigs of ram, put in SSDs, wifi cards, etc. :like:

So like me buying on eBay.

That's good to know, I've bought a few things from Lazada, I'm about to buy a Xiaomi G10 vacuum cleaner on Lazada once I arrive and I've bought some really good computer monitors on there this last few years.

Are your ThinkCentres the full size or small form factor (SFF) ones or the Tinys like mine?

They're great machines at any scale!

They are SFFs. Very well put together, and I particularly like the clever and simple way the cases open for access to the innards. :)

I've so far only had good experiences with Xiaomi phones....having bought three of them in recent years...two via Lazada. :like:

The Tiny's are equally as clever in the way they open up, again good to know!

My neice who lives and works in China speaks highly of all Xiaomi equipment!

We have three old Lenovo T460 Thinkpad laptops in the house now and one more will arrive soon for my son. All laptops bought on eBay for around £150 or less. Useful to have power supplies that are interchangeable.
Great reliable machines and the backlit keyboards are very useful :)
We have four Xiaomi Redmi phones also.

They may be good for you the T460 uses an I5-6300, it's horses for courses with this sort of thing:

I buy the R5 coz it's basically a cheap gaming option for the kids which I can upgrade a bit later if I have to... but it's also a wiz for the desktop :D

The L series is thicker and heavier, the picture you post is will be a reconditioned model maybe about 6 to 8 years old, personally I don't like laptops with a numberic keypad.

The L570 you would have to check the processor generation Windows 11 will only work on 8th generation Intel processors, it's to do with the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) you need TPM 2.0, you can make the Windows install work on older laptops and it will run but it's a hack and a pain and remember that Windows 10 is now out of support as of later this year that means no security fixes and no guarentees that all software will continue to run on it.

Thinkpads generally come in 13", 14" and 15" sizes the T series is the higher quality lighter weight one, L series is the cheaper series the likes of a T480s (which I bought for my son last summer) is a 14" model (the 4 in the model number) the '80' was referring to the year 2018 and the 's' was the slim extra lightweight version my own laptop is a standard T480 which can have an second battery installed.

Lenovo ThinkPad T480S T470s Laptop [Brand New] Legit Intel Dual/Quad-Core i5/i7 8G/12G DDR4 RAM 256G/512G/1T SSD ROM 14-inch FHD 1920*1080 Screen Authentic Sealed Built-in WEBCAM/Camera Ms office 365 Windows 11 Pro Operating system Business notebook | Lazada PH

I'm not saying to buy from this place but this is the same model I got for James and it's the same store, it was in almost mint condition but there was a screen protector on it which I removed because it was squinty and there were a couple of smudges on the screen that gave away the second hand nature of the device, I paid 30,923 but I got the 24GB RAM version and a 1TB SSD option.

The post Tx80 i.e. not the Tx70 where x is 4 or 5 are the ones to go for 2017 and earlier were 7th gen Intel processors and not good enough for Windows 11.

The 15" versions that have the integrated numeric keypad, my problem with that is that the typing experience becomes awkward because unlike a desktop keyboard you don't ahve any space between the keys separating the Num Pad from the rest, makes it harder to accurately hit the enter key and backspace.

I'd steer clear of the L series because you're not really saving anything with these older reconditioned ThinkPad's versus the T series.

Last couple of points the X series tend to be 13" models and lightweight when my kids were younger I got them X series devices and last point the naming conventions changed after 2020 model numbers that don't conform to my description above are more likely to be newer ones, also Lenovo do Ryzen processors in more recent models and those are fine too.

edit: in my link above they are completely out of stock, just posted to let let you know that for me at least they provided a reliable and good service.

edit 2 : this vid is me checking out my son's laptop the day it arrived, I've just listened to it again and god I am a lousy communicator :D (I have another video of the unboxing it was very well presented but I've not got it on YouTube it came before the one below and it worth a look maybe upload it later) (I mean the packaging was good not that me the presenter was good :D)

I've always gone with Lenovo TP's, but in a moment of madness, I bought a Dell, wished I hadn't.

Bought a Inspiron 14plus in March. Within 1 week, I was getting BSODs, bluetooth audio failure and USB failures. Sent off for repair, they'd replaced motherboard, USB sub-board, speakers and keyboard. Laptop came back 2 weeks later, then within 7 days, USB errors and bluetooth audio corruption returned. Sent it back again, it got "fixed" and returned to me. Again, they had replaced the motherboard, speakers and USB sub-board. Then the fun started - I rejected the laptop, emailed them, called them (Dell doesn't have customer service, only technical support) asking for refund. Then they ignored me for 3 weeks - telling me someone will call and they will escalate, blah blah.. So I ended up sending a Letter Before Action to their HQ in London, giving them 2 weeks. Still they promised to contact me, but never did. I emailed them again stating they have until 24th June to collect the laptop and refund me the £799 purchase price or I will pursue through small claims court. As if by magic, they called me this morning to say they will collect the laptop within 24 hours and refund me. The 24th deadline still applies - I don't trust them one bit.

Dell used to be good - my first Window 98 desktop from 1999 was built like a tank, rock solid reliable and never went wrong.

Ironically, I bought a cheap TP T470 for £200 as a stop gap, and its perfect, if a little slow. Once Dell refund me, I'll be looking at a TP once again. Lenovo, I'm so sorry for straying, I promise I wont do it again.

You're right Rob back in the day Dell were very good, my first business laptop that I bought for myself was a Dell that was back in 1996 and cost something like £2500.

Now though I wouldn't get a Dell, I'm sure they still make some good kit but after the last 15 years of Lenovo laptops and desktops all of them second hand it's just not worth the risk getting anything else anymore, my T480 is perfect for me when travelling and not noticably slow in any respect but then again I'm not a gamer and I'm I'm not programming now although it's still perfect for programming.

Biggest problem for any laptop or desktop in the Philippines is the humidity and also for laptops the dust, ThinkPads will die quicker in the Philippines and it's usually thermal problems related to failed or failing fans but I would expect that to be a problem for all brands of laptops over there, power supplies are also vulnerable their power plugs rusting away in a few years.
