I personally was challenged in Braehead about 4 or 5 years ago for taking pictures, arrogant morons, really gets to me :frust:

Braehead, what's wrong with these shots? Not my kids but, what's the problem?

Not a good shot from a photographic viewpoint but a good family snap

This is the actual centre from one of its more photogenic viewpoints

I was also challenged in Glasgow's Bucahan street mall exactly the same problem, they were interfering with street photography.

Buchanan Galleries Mall http://www.buchanangalleries.co.uk/ I got stopped when taking shots like this one.

    Glasgow street photography.

I am fond of this one :)

I suppose not everyone likes the idea of street photography but it is a very large part of amateur and professional documentary, it serves a purpose it records our history!

As usual all of these are my photos unless I state otherwise.

I have read that some of the guards at Spinningfields in Manchester have been known to try this, except in their case it is outdoors and easy to access (for bars and restaurants). I'm giving some thought to going down there for some street photography and when such a guard pops up to tell me how the building is copyright (this was an excuse I read) and how he wants me to delete my images... Then I will take his picture and tell him where to go!

The good people at I'm a Photographer, not a Terrorist have produced an excellent "Bust card" for people to know their rights and you can find it here.

Yeah I know my rights in this instance but that is a great link Kuya, I think some of the law is different and more reasonable in Scotland but I would need to check.

I have also seen much more detailed examples of Photographers rights in the UK, I need to try to look these up again, while it is very good, that link still seems restrictive in comparison to my knowledge of this issue via respected magazines like Amateur photographer.

The "BUST Card" link did not work but this one did http://photographernotaterrorist.org/ and this worked http://www.thedrum.com/node/81103

I absolutely despise the "CONTROL" now exercised in UK by "THE authorities" = anything in a uniform..... IMO feels the use of agressive tactics is OK.

I do add that the link from photographernotaterrorist.org showed the London Bobby in fine form as the voice of common sense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FJH9F7Hcluo

I read, some while ago, that 4000+ new laws were inrtoduced by the Blair Government.

It was in the NEWSpaper ? so it must be true.!?

Thanks Tom very interesting security staff taking they job a little too far and not knowing the law, I can understand the terrorist bit, but we still have some rights left, haven't we..?

Less and less I have noticed.!

It is most disconcerting and I also feel intimidatied at times dealing with simpletons like the security prats in the "Stand your ground" Video. It is little known, that now under English Law, to be guilty of assault and arrested it is NOT necessary to actually TOUCH a body.!??? A gesture of "fist throwing" is enough.... WTF.
I usually ignore such Prats. Thinking "I have my PI home and I will be living there soon" With my  Tex.

€Land seems to have employed some of the less thoughtful (EQ wise) and use a "sledgehammer" approach to Tax Collection AKA "Harmonization".

Harmonization has "dumb'd-down" English Law and the worthwhile perks and anomalies of a Great British system. Black & White rules RULE.! No variants or consideration or "Gray area's" previously the cornerstone of English fairness and Common Law. Once the envy of The World.

The same is true of The Irish Republic Law's where considerations could be considered in the recent past.
No longer possible. Though "we" Paddies have prosecuted the thieving politicans and their Corporate Paymaster's. The "****** Bankers" & Industrialist's.

The English have more practice so they have gotten away with "it" - so far.!

I have seen this, Black & White, system first hand in relation to my wife's Visa requirements for UK residency and Citizenship over the last 6 years. Each step she took was, luckily, just before the Law changed and tightened. Yet the SCUM of the World & East European Gypo's" Women slave traders" & pick-pocket's get free access? to UK & Eire welfare systems.

Just visited Spain, back Tuesday, and Portugal, back last month, and gotten the same opinion from businessmen there.
MERDE and more Tax collecting merde beancounters without a thought for the Citizen.

Here endeth the "rant" and PI here cometh a disillusioned West Brit*.. and grateful for my PI home.

PigSick of €Land & UK together with their "Germain Greer" wommennzzz & their Pig Sick control mentality.

That's an excellent clip Tom, clearly the police have been well warned now against the idiocy of earlier years, the AP magazine has a good summary of the law that photographers can carry to protect themselves against police officers that have not yet been brought up to date on the law http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/imageBank/i/image44.jpg sorry it's a bit hard to read it's supposed to be printed out and folded :)

I had a similar experience to this in the Trafford Centre, Manchester. My son (then about 12yo) was on the dodgems and I was watching and attempted to take a photo or two with my mobile phone. I was asked to stop. I tried to rationalise it out with them but they wouldn't budge on it. I got a free go on the ten pin bowling out of it though.

Personally I am at the point of despair as I have just been at the opposite end and just missed every law change apart from one (my daughter got the right to be British because of when she was born) .

The EU expansion and opening up of markets has directly impacted on my profession, I and many others have much more competition now, in my case the competition is Polish however it is only fair to say that they are very very talented, although because they are very young they are terribly naive in terms of their understanding of real business.

It is a relentless march and will never return to the old days, we have to adapt or leave, I am old enough that I would like to leave too ;) :)

The same thing happened to me when a uniformed officer challenge me for taking picture of myself using my smartphone in THE ORACLE in Reading. First time it happened to me so i was a little bit shocked! He didnt confiscate my phone nor ask me to delete the photo but i was given a strong warning which he said for security reason.

would say wtf is wrong with the UK these days but then again was in a store the other day in Cebu and the guard swiftly came over to say I couldn't take a photo of anything in the store. I was actually taking photos of the top boxes for motorbikes, not sure what top secret information or violations of rights I was breaching but the world has gone mad.
