What an amazing photo: (This came up as a desktop photo in Windows 10). Roussánou Monastery at the Metéora pillars in Greece Hermit monks first occupied the rock towers of Metéora, Greece, in the 9th century. They eventually built monasteries atop the pillars, including the Roussánou Monastery. The sheer cliff walls kept visitors to a minimum, which afforded the hermits solitary lives of ascetic devotion. Today, Roussánou can be reached via a network of roads and bridges. Altogether, more than 20 monasteries were built in Metéora beginning in the 14th century, but only six remain: four for monks, two for nuns. Each has fewer than a dozen occupants, and all the monasteries are open for tours. Another photo in the same area:
Bhutan, land of Druk the thunder dragon, far, far better than Tibet or Nepal combined, its a beautiful, tranquil, mystical place that left me in tears when my trip came to an end, but I will return.
