RIP Karl Wallinger, playing piano on this piece of pure brilliance. The Waterboys were my favourite band for a large chunk of the 1980's. Saw them live many times.
Yah, RIP, never knew he was the one: Yah, very nice piano on Girl called Johnny - only 66 eeks... hope I last a bit longer than that Great video - he's got a site full of music tv videos - looks good too.
Apparently, Karl Wallinger was none too happy that Robbie Williams covered "She's the One" without his permission. Robbie's collaborator, Guy Chambers, was also in World Party and it was his idea.
Appears he was grateful he did later, as a couple of years after it got to no 1 in uk the poor bugger had a brain aneurysm and had to learn to play and talk again: “It was lucky for me that he did it, because he kept us all in biscuits," Wallinger said. “Everything would have changed; I’d have had to have sold the kids. Got rid of the house and dismantle everything.” Anyway thanks, some great videos on: https://www.youtube.com/@ScottishTeeVee/videos site
And Mike Scott did pretty well off of Ellie Goulding's version of "How long will I love you" too. A couple of talented songwriters who probably sail a bit under the radar for a lot of people.
